What they need

MYCO helps people start, run, and manage UK businesses. More than 70,000 clients have used our company formation, address, mail, call answering, meeting room, and compliance services. We are bringing those services into a clearer, connected digital experience. Our systems support client accounts, companies, services, commerce, fulfilment, compliance, and operational teams.

About the role

We are looking for a proactive, hands-on IT Administrator with strong database and cloud computing skills. The role combines day-to-day IT operations with ownership of database reliability, Microsoft 365 and Azure administration, security, resilience and continuous improvement.

You will keep colleagues productive, protect business-critical data and help improve the technology standards, controls and documentation needed for a dependable and scalable environment. You will work closely with product, engineering, operations and external suppliers, balancing responsive support with structured technical improvement.

Key outcomes

  • Reliable end-user, workplace and network services across MYCO locations.
  • Secure, well-maintained Microsoft 365, identity and cloud environments.
  • Healthy, recoverable and well-governed production databases.
  • Clear operational procedures, runbooks, asset records and technical documentation.
  • Fewer recurring incidents through root-cause analysis, automation and preventative maintenance.

What you will do

IT operations and user support

  • Provide responsive support for hardware, software, accounts, devices, connectivity and business applications.
  • Diagnose root causes, resolve incidents and service requests, and coordinate effectively with suppliers when escalation is required.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Outlook, shared mailboxes, SharePoint and Office applications.
  • Maintain user access, devices, software, licences, assets and joiner, mover and leaver processes.
  • Monitor network performance, investigate connectivity issues and support reliable services across Ipswich, London and Edinburgh.
  • Maintain basic server and directory services, including Active Directory where applicable.

Database administration and data protection

  • Operate, monitor and improve Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database environments supporting MYCO products and operations.
  • Monitor database health, availability, capacity, security and query performance; investigate production issues and contribute to incident resolution.
  • Tune queries, indexes, constraints and data-access patterns in collaboration with developers.
  • Define and maintain backup, restore, retention, recovery and disaster-recovery procedures; test restores and rollback plans.
  • Manage database access using least privilege, auditing, encryption and appropriate sensitive-data controls.
  • Support safe, version-controlled schema deployments with validation, review and reversible release plans.

Cloud, identity and security

  • Administer and improve Microsoft Azure services relevant to the company estate, including Azure SQL, identity, monitoring, networking and secret management.
  • Administer Microsoft Entra ID, access controls and authentication policies in line with least-privilege principles.
  • Monitor cloud health, capacity, security and cost; identify risks and practical opportunities for optimisation.
  • Maintain and test business-continuity, recovery and security controls across cloud and on-premises services.
  • Apply secure configuration, patching, vulnerability-management and data-protection practices, escalating material risks appropriately.

Continuous improvement and governance

  • Automate routine administration, monitoring, maintenance and compliance checks using PowerShell, SQL or another scripting language.
  • Maintain accurate runbooks, architecture records, support procedures, asset information and recovery documentation.
  • Research, assess and present practical improvements to systems, processes, security and service reliability.
  • Contribute to change management, release risk assessment, incident reviews and action tracking.
  • Help refine IT policies and procedures so they remain current, clear and proportionate.

Essential experience and skills

  • Hands-on experience in an IT administration or support role, with strong troubleshooting across hardware, software, user access and networks.
  • Production experience administering Microsoft SQL Server or Azure SQL Database.
  • Experience with database backups, point-in-time recovery, restores and disaster-recovery planning.
  • Experience managing Microsoft 365 services and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Practical Microsoft Azure administration experience, including monitoring and access control.
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals, DNS and secure connectivity.
  • Knowledge of database and cloud security, least-privilege access, auditing and encryption.
  • Ability to automate repeatable tasks using PowerShell, SQL or another scripting language.
  • Clear communication, disciplined documentation and sound judgement when managing production risk and change.

Desirable experience

  • Azure SQL diagnostics, scaling, performance monitoring and cost management.
  • Git, pull requests, code review and CI/CD or version-controlled database deployment workflows.
  • High availability, geo-replication, failover and business-continuity design.
  • SQL Server Query Store, Extended Events and dynamic management views.
  • Multi-tenant software, tenant-aware data models or .NET / EF Core data access.
  • AWS administration, particularly WorkMail, Route 53 or EC2.
  • Experience with GDPR, data retention or security frameworks such as ISO 27001.
  • Relevant Microsoft certification or active progress toward one, such as Azure Administrator or DP-300.

Working arrangements

  • Permanent, full-time role.
  • Based in Ipswich.
  • Occasional support for MYCO colleagues and services across other UK locations may be required.
  • Salary and benefits: competitive and dependent on the breadth and depth of experience.
