What they need

Job Overview

We are looking for a proactive and capable IT Assistant to join our growing team in Lymington. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting day-to-day IT operations, infrastructure projects, and end-user support across the business.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with everything from laptops and Microsoft 365 accounts through to servers, networking equipment, and physical hardware installations. This role would suit an individual who enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with users, and getting involved in a wide range of IT and technology projects.

While the role is primarily office-based, occasional travel to remote sites may be required to install, maintain, or troubleshoot IT equipment. As such, a full UK driving licence is desirable.

Duties

  • Provide first and second-line IT support to users both remotely and in person.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, and Microsoft 365 issues.
  • Prepare, configure, deploy, and maintain desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals.
  • Create and manage user accounts, permissions, and access control within Microsoft 365 and Active Directory/Entra ID environments.
  • Assist with server administration, monitoring, backups, and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Support networking infrastructure including switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and cabling.
  • Install, rack, and maintain server and communications equipment.
  • Participate in IT projects including hardware refreshes, system migrations, deployments, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and asset records.
  • Monitor system health and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Assist with cybersecurity best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Travel occasionally to customer, branch, or remote locations to support IT equipment and infrastructure.

About You

You are technically minded, practical, and enjoy working with both technology and people. You will be capable of managing your workload independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.

You should be comfortable performing both desk-based technical work and hands-on physical tasks involving IT equipment. Experience using hand tools and carrying out basic installation work is highly desirable.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • At least two years previous experience working in an IT support, IT technician, or similar role.
  • Good understanding of Windows 10/11 operating systems.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications and services.
  • Familiarity with PCs, laptops, printers, and general IT hardware.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, switching, and cabling.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to support remote sites and installations.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent IT qualification.
  • Experience supporting Windows Server environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation technologies such as Hyper-V or VMware.
  • Experience with backup solutions and cybersecurity tools.
  • Experience with network infrastructure and firewall administration.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Applicants without formal qualifications are encouraged to apply. Relevant hands-on experience, technical aptitude, and a willingness to learn will be considered equally alongside certifications.
