IT - Data Centre Operator

Our client is seeking a Data Centre Operator to support the day-to-day operation and monitoring of its data centre environment. The role will be responsible for facility monitoring, incident escalation, access control, routine inspections, batch job operations, and general operational support to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable data centre environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal technology teams, users, and external vendors in a 24/7 mission-critical environment .

Key Responsibilities

Data Centre Operations

• Monitor critical data centre facilities and infrastructure, including power, cooling, fire suppression, and environmental systems .
• Conduct routine site inspections and environmental patrols to identify potential operational or safety issues.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance and onsite activities with external vendors.
• Support inventory checks, equipment movement, site maintenance, and other routine data centre activities.

Batch Job & System Operations

• Monitor scheduled system and batch jobs to ensure timely and successful execution.
• Perform basic operational checks and escalate failed or abnormal jobs to the appropriate technical teams.
• Support daily operational procedures and maintain accurate operation logs and records.
• Familiarity with Control-M or other enterprise job scheduling tools is an advantage.

Incident & Problem Management

• Act as the first point of escalation for data centre and operational incidents.
• Perform initial investigation and coordinate with relevant technical teams and vendors for timely resolution.
• Assist with problem investigation, follow-up actions, and service restoration activities.
• Maintain accurate incident and operational records.

Backup & Recovery Operations

• Support routine backup monitoring and operational checks.
• Assist with backup job monitoring, failure escalation, and recovery-related activities.
• Familiarity with Veritas NetBackup or other enterprise backup solutions is an advantage.

Access & Security Control

• Manage visitor access and equipment movement within the data centre.
• Ensure site access and equipment handling activities comply with established security and operational procedures.
• Maintain appropriate access records and operational documentation.

Helpdesk & User Support

• Provide first-line assistance to users by handling IT enquiries, service requests, and basic troubleshooting.
• Escalate technical issues to the appropriate support teams where required.
• Maintain a customer-focused and service-oriented approach when supporting users.

Operational Support & Documentation

• Prepare and maintain operational reports, logs, checklists, and records.
• Follow established operational procedures, security requirements, and service management guidelines.
• Support other data centre and IT operations activities as assigned.

Requirements

• Higher Diploma or above in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 1+ year of relevant working experience in data centre operations, IT operations, infrastructure support, NOC, or a related environment.
• Candidates with more experience are welcome, while candidates with less experience may also be considered depending on their overall suitability.
• Willingness to work on a 24/7 shift rotation , including overnight, weekends, and public holidays.
• Basic understanding of data centre operations and infrastructure.
• Good troubleshooting, incident escalation, and coordination skills.
• Customer-oriented with a responsible, patient, and service-minded approach.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in a 24/7 Data Centre, NOC, IT Operations, or mission-critical environment .
• Familiarity with Control-M or other batch scheduling / workload automation tools.
• Familiarity with Veritas NetBackup or other enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
