Company Overview
CAP & Associates is an innovative designer and manufacturer of retail store fixtures and displays. We are committed to delivering high-quality, customized solutions that elevate the retail experience through cutting-edge technology and design excellence.
Position Summary
The Director of Information Technology leads CAP Fixtures' technology strategy and day-to-day IT function. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for infrastructure, cybersecurity, ERP and business systems, AI and automation initiatives, technology projects, vendors, and a small internal IT team. The Director partners with leaders across the company to improve reliability, productivity, data quality, security, and business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the company technology roadmap, aligning priorities and investments with business growth, operational needs, customer requirements, and risk.
- Serve as the senior technology advisor to leadership and translate business needs into practical, scalable solutions.
- Establish IT standards, policies, governance, service expectations, and performance measures while remaining hands-on with critical systems and escalations.
Infrastructure, Cybersecurity & Business Continuity
- Oversee networks, servers, cloud services, Microsoft 365/email, identity and access, endpoints, plant connectivity, software, and related hardware.
- Direct cybersecurity controls including multifactor authentication, patching, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, logging, incident response, employee awareness, and third-party risk.
- Maintain and test backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery capabilities for critical business systems.
- Manage technology standards, licensing, asset inventory, refresh planning, system documentation, and external support partners.
ERP & Business Systems
- Own the strategy, administration, performance, security, and continuous improvement roadmap for the company ERP platform and other core business applications.
- Lead ERP upgrades, configuration, integrations, permissions, reporting, testing, vendor coordination, and change management with minimal disruption.
- Partner with manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, inventory, sales, shipping, accounting, and other functions to improve business processes through better use of systems.
- Improve data integrity, reporting consistency, system controls, and master-data practices.
- Reduce manual work and duplicate entry through integrations, workflow redesign, APIs, automation, training, and standard work.
AI, Automation & Digital Development
- Establish a practical AI and automation roadmap focused on measurable improvements in productivity, quality, speed, customer responsiveness, and decision-making.
- Lead or oversee the design, testing, and deployment of AI-enabled tools, workflow automations, internal applications, and digital assistants.
- Evaluate build-versus-buy options, AI platforms, vendors, APIs, data requirements, security, and long-term supportability.
- Integrate approved AI and automation solutions with ERP, Microsoft 365, document repositories, reporting tools, and other business data sources where appropriate.
- Establish responsible-AI standards for confidential information, intellectual property, access, human review, vendor risk, acceptable use, and data retention.
- Measure adoption, business impact, cost savings, and return on investment; provide training and change-management support.
Team Leadership & Service Delivery
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 2-3 IT professionals, setting clear priorities, goals, responsibilities, and development plans.
- Create a responsive internal service culture with effective prioritization, escalation, root-cause analysis, documentation, and communication.
- Ensure cross-training and coverage so critical knowledge and responsibilities are not concentrated with one person.
Projects, Vendors & Financial Management
- Plan and lead major technology projects including upgrades, migrations, integrations, infrastructure changes, cybersecurity initiatives, and new system deployments.
- Develop and manage IT operating and capital budgets, prioritizing spending based on business value, risk reduction, lifecycle needs, and total cost of ownership.
- Select and manage technology vendors, software providers, consultants, and managed-service partners; monitor service levels, cost, and contract performance.
- Maintain clear project scope, schedules, risks, testing, communications, and post-implementation follow-up.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, business systems, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Typically 5+ years of progressive IT experience, including responsibility for infrastructure, business systems, cybersecurity, and technology projects, with at least 3 years leading people or major technology functions.
- Demonstrated experience administering, implementing, integrating, or significantly improving an ERP system in a manufacturing or similarly operational environment.
- Strong working knowledge of networks, cloud/server platforms, identity and access, endpoints, backup/recovery, cybersecurity controls, software lifecycle management, and systems performance.
- Experience leading cross-functional technology projects and translating business requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and lead practical AI, automation, data, or application-development initiatives; direct machine-learning engineering experience is not required.
- Strong communication, prioritization, budgeting, vendor-management, documentation, and change-management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively as both a strategic leader and hands-on problem solver in a lean, highly accountable environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a mid-size manufacturing company supporting both plant-floor and office technology.
- Experience with ERP platforms, manufacturing systems a plus.
- Experience with system integrations, APIs, business intelligence/reporting, workflow automation, and Microsoft 365/cloud technologies.
- Experience managing managed-service providers, cybersecurity partners, software vendors, and implementation consultants.
- Familiarity with IT governance, cyber-insurance/security requirements, disaster-recovery planning, and responsible use of generative AI in a business environment.
