What they need
IT Hardware Asset Manager
- ONSITE IN NYC*
We are seeking a detail-oriented IT Hardware Asset Manager to oversee the auditing, tracking, and lifecycle management of hardware across technology lab and data center environments. This role owns accurate visibility into every asset received, deployed, and retired. It is not a hands-on technician role. You will not patch cables or rack servers, but you must understand that work well enough to gather requirements, direct technicians, and see tasks through to completion.
The most important qualification is a strong grasp of the environment: knowing what the equipment is, how components differ, what they do, and whether an asset has reached end-of-life or is due for refresh.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit, log, and track incoming and outgoing hardware, maintaining accurate records of inventory, location, ownership, and lifecycle status.
- Verify specifications, serial numbers, and configurations during intake, deployment, transfer, and disposition.
- Run regular audits and reconciliations to catch gaps, discrepancies, and missing records.
- Gather requirements and direct technical teams on setup, deployment, refresh, decommissioning, and secure removal. You manage the work, not the facility itself.
- Manage asset requests, allocations, returns, and status reporting with internal stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation for disposal, redeployment, warranty tracking, and chain of custody.
- Use inventory and asset management tools to report on inventory health, utilization, and outstanding actions.
Qualifications
- Experience in IT asset management, hardware inventory control, lab operations, or data center operations.
- Working knowledge of IT hardware: end-user devices, servers, storage, networking, peripherals, and data center infrastructure. Ability to identify equipment on sight and assess end-of-life or refresh status.
- Understanding of the full hardware lifecycle, from receipt and staging through refresh, decommissioning, and disposal.
- Proficiency with inventory, asset management, or DCIM software, plus ticketing and workflow tools such as ServiceNow and Jira.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills across multiple hardware categories.
- Clear written and verbal communication for documenting status, issues, and next steps.
Preferred
- Prior hands-on data center or lab experience such as patching, cabling, and racking servers and switches. You will not perform this work, but understanding it is essential.
- Basic networking knowledge.
- Comfort using AI tools to improve inventory accuracy, exception tracking, and efficiency.
- Familiarity with audit readiness, reconciliation reporting, and chain-of-custody practices.
- Ability to analyze inventory data, spot trends, and recommend process improvements.
- Comfort in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly.
