Job Overview

IT / Low-Voltage Technicians – Multiple Positions Available

  • Position 1: TV & Audio/Video Installation Technician — $17+/hr
  • Position 2: Commercial Low-Voltage & Digital Menu Board Technician — $20+/hr | Team Lead $25+/hr

ASC MediaCom LLC is seeking motivated, dependable technicians to join our growing team. We specialize in IT infrastructure, low-voltage cabling, networking, audio/video systems, digital menu boards, surveillance systems, TV mounting, and commercial technology installations throughout North Carolina and surrounding areas.

We are currently hiring for two different technician positions. Both are hands-on field positions, and neither requires previous IT experience for the right person. IT or low-voltage experience is definitely a plus, but we also encourage applicants with construction, carpentry, handyman, electrical, mechanical, or other trade experience to apply. Those skills translate very well into the work we do.

We are looking for people who are dependable, willing to learn, able to take direction, and interested in growing their skills and income with the company.

Position 1 – Local TV & Audio/Video Installation Technician

This is our more consistent local position, typically working 4–5 days per week.

The normal service areas are:

  • Approximately 2 days per week in Jacksonville and surrounding areas
  • Approximately 2 days per week in Morehead City and surrounding areas
  • Additional local work as demand requires

You will work with a partner each day completing residential and commercial installations.

Typical work includes mounting TVs, including TVs up to 100 inches; mounting and installing soundbars; installing and concealing wiring; connecting and setting up AV equipment; loading/unloading equipment; picking up equipment for scheduled jobs; and maintaining a clean, professional installation area.

A company work truck will be provided for daily jobs. You must have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a work vehicle while pulling an enclosed trailer. We pick up equipment for our jobs regularly, so trailer driving is part of the position.

You must be physically capable of lifting approximately 80–100 lbs with assistance. We are seeing more customers purchase 98” and 100” TVs, so safe team lifting is an important part of the job.

Basic tools will be provided. Having your own professional tools is a plus, but any personally owned tools used on our jobs must be approved by management.

Starting pay is typically $17/hour and increases based on experience, knowledge, reliability, quality of work, and the types of jobs you can complete. The more you learn and the more work we can trust you to handle, the more opportunities you will have to earn.

Position 2 – Commercial Digital Menu Board / Low-Voltage Technician

Starting pay: $20/hourTeam Lead starting pay: $25/hour

This is a semi-travel overnight position working on commercial digital menu board and technology projects throughout North Carolina.

Most nights you will still return home after the job. However, occasional hotel stays will be required when the distance, schedule, or commute does not make sense.

A typical night starts with arriving at the restaurant around 8:30–9:00 PM. Completion times can range anywhere from approximately 3:00–7:00 AM depending on the scope of work and site conditions, although our goal is to have the team completed and heading home around 4:00 AM whenever possible.

This is typically a 3-person crew, so you must work well with others and be able to communicate, take direction, and contribute as part of a team.

Work may include running new Cat6 cable; terminating existing Cat6 cabling; testing and labeling network lines; swapping and installing digital menu board media players; installing patch panels; mounting digital menu boards and related equipment; connecting network equipment; configuring static IP addresses on media players and digital menu board equipment; troubleshooting hardware/network connectivity; and completing professional cable management and cleanup.

This position requires completion of company/client training modules before your first field assignment.

The schedule for our digital menu board team is based more heavily on project demand. It can provide a better payday and greater advancement opportunities, but you must be flexible with your availability. There may be busy periods with several projects followed by slower periods.

Technicians who demonstrate the ability to manage projects, communicate effectively, maintain our installation standards, and lead a 3-person crew can advance into a Team Lead position starting at $25/hour. Additional increases are possible as your knowledge, responsibilities, and the work entrusted to you increase.

Requirements for Both Positions

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation to the designated meeting/work location, be dependable and on time, be able to work safely from ladders, be comfortable using hand and power tools, and be physically capable of performing hands-on installation work.

You must also be able to pass a background check and a 4-panel drug screening. The screening does not include marijuana. However, regardless of what you do during your personal time, being high, impaired, or otherwise under the influence during working hours or while operating company vehicles/equipment will not be tolerated.

Experience

Neither position directly requires previous IT experience.

Experience with Cat5e/Cat6 cabling, terminations, networking, TV mounting, audio/video systems, surveillance cameras, construction, carpentry, handyman work, electrical work, or general trades is a plus.

We especially encourage experienced carpenters, handymen, construction workers, and mechanically inclined applicants to apply. A lot of those skills transfer directly into this field, and we can teach the technology side to someone who has the right work ethic and willingness to learn.

A Note About the Type of Work We Do

If you’re coming from an IT background expecting a clean-cut desk-style IT position where you won’t get your hands dirty, this probably isn’t the right job for you.

This is field IT and low-voltage work. You may be drilling, climbing ladders, pulling cable through ceilings and walls, working above ceiling tiles, mounting heavy equipment, unloading TVs, troubleshooting equipment, cleaning up job sites, and working in active restaurants and commercial environments.

Credentials and certifications are appreciated, but they don’t replace effort or field performance. We’ve had experiences with applicants who believed having certifications meant there was nothing left for them to learn. That’s not the environment we’re building.

The owner has 18+ years of experience in the field and is very particular about the quality of work that leaves a job site. We don’t expect you to walk in perfect. What matters is your effort, willingness to learn, attention to detail, ability to accept constructive criticism, and desire to improve.

If you show us more, we’ll give you more. As your knowledge increases and we can trust you with more complex and higher-paying projects, your pay will increase accordingly. We will not hesitate to increase someone’s pay when their knowledge, effort, reliability, and quality of work justify it.
