What they need
Our IT environment supports multiple teams, business applications and day-to-day operations. We’re adding an IT Operations Analyst to help keep that environment stable and make sure incidents, alerts and recurring technical issues are properly followed through.
This isn’t a call-heavy help desk position. There will be some user support, but the majority of your time will be spent looking at what’s happening across our systems and responding when something isn’t running as expected.
8:00am – What happened overnight?
The first part of the day is usually spent reviewing system alerts, failed jobs, backup results and incidents carried over from the previous day.
Anything that needs attention gets investigated, documented and either resolved or passed to the appropriate technical team.
Through the Day
Priorities change depending on what’s happening across the environment, but regular work includes:
- Monitoring servers, applications and network services
- Investigating system and service alerts
- Checking backup and scheduled job failures
- Managing incidents through the ITSM system
- Coordinating escalations with infrastructure and application teams
- Supporting planned system changes
- Maintaining change, incident and problem records
- Reviewing recurring faults and identifying patterns
- Updating operational procedures and technical documentation
- Tracking system availability and service performance
You’ll also produce regular reports covering areas such as incident volumes, recurring issues, system availability and outstanding operational work.
Where You’ll Need Experience
- This position would suit someone coming from IT operations, systems support, infrastructure support or an experienced technical service desk background.
- You don’t need to be a specialist engineer, but you should understand the fundamentals of:
- Windows environments | Microsoft 365 | Active Directory / Entra ID | Basic networking | ITSM systems | Monitoring tools | Backup processes | Incident management
- Experience with PowerShell, ITIL processes or service reporting would be useful.
A Few Practical Points
- Most weeks follow the standard Monday-to-Friday schedule.
- Occasionally, a system upgrade or planned change may need to happen outside normal hours. This is scheduled in advance where possible rather than being a regular part of the working week.
- You’ll have infrastructure, security and application specialists available for escalation. What we expect from the IT Operations Analyst is proper initial investigation, accurate documentation and enough technical judgement to know where an issue needs to go next.
If you’re ready to move beyond basic ticket handling and get more involved in how IT services actually operate, please apply with your current resume.
