Enterprise Data Product Manager Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Data Product Manager to lead the strategy, prioritization, and delivery of data products across a growing enterprise data and analytics organization. This individual will serve as the primary connection between business stakeholders and teams responsible for data engineering, architecture, analytics, governance, and AI.
The role is responsible for understanding business challenges, identifying opportunities where data can improve decision-making, and translating those needs into a clearly defined product roadmap and prioritized backlog. The Product Manager will guide data products from initial discovery through delivery, adoption, ongoing improvement, and eventual retirement.
This is a true product management position rather than a traditional project management or hands-on engineering role. The successful candidate will combine strong product thinking with enterprise data knowledge and the ability to influence multiple technical and business teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesData Product Strategy
Develop and maintain the vision, strategy, roadmap, and measurable objectives for enterprise data products.
Manage a prioritized portfolio and backlog based on business impact, effort, technical dependencies, data availability, and governance considerations.
Establish a data-as-a-product approach that includes clearly identified consumers and owners, service expectations, documentation, version management, and lifecycle planning.
Business Partnership
Partner directly with business leaders and process owners to understand operational challenges, decision-making needs, and opportunities for improved use of enterprise data.
Lead discovery conversations and translate business requirements into actionable data and analytics capabilities.
Communicate priorities, trade-offs, roadmap decisions, and product outcomes effectively to both technical teams and senior business leaders.
Develop strong relationships with users and stakeholders to continuously gather feedback and improve data products.
Prioritization and Delivery
Own and continuously refine the data product backlog, including epics, user stories, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
Establish a consistent intake and prioritization process using business value, effort, urgency, dependencies, and measurable impact.
Partner with technical and functional leaders throughout planning and delivery activities, including backlog refinement, release planning, demonstrations, and product reviews.
Resolve or escalate competing priorities and dependencies while maintaining transparency around scope, timing, and delivery decisions.
Monitor roadmap execution and communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes to leadership.
Business Intelligence and Analytics
Partner with analytics and BI teams to develop curated datasets, dashboards, and reporting capabilities that provide consistent and reusable business information.
Establish clear definitions for enterprise KPIs, measures, and business metrics to improve consistency across reporting and analytics solutions.
Monitor product utilization and adoption to determine where capabilities should be enhanced, consolidated, or retired.
Data Governance and Quality
Collaborate with data governance and master data teams to incorporate appropriate ownership, stewardship, quality standards, access controls, metadata, and lineage into data products.
Ensure data products meet organizational standards for security, governance, risk management, and responsible use of data and AI.
Help establish the semantic definitions and supporting data structures necessary for trusted analytics and AI-enabled use cases.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Work closely with data engineers, architects, analysts, governance professionals, BI developers, and AI teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Provide clear requirements and acceptance criteria while helping teams resolve delivery obstacles and cross-functional dependencies.
Measure product effectiveness using indicators such as adoption, data quality, time to insight, user satisfaction, and measurable business value.
Product Management Maturity
Help establish scalable product management processes, templates, operating practices, and delivery standards across the enterprise data organization.
Support the development of a domain-oriented Product Owner model and provide guidance to Product Owners as the organization expands.
Continuously improve how data initiatives are evaluated, prioritized, developed, launched, and measured.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of experience within data, analytics, technology, or product management, including at least 2 years owning data or analytics products.
Experience with a modern cloud data platform such as Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or a comparable technology.
Working knowledge of data modeling, views, security and access management, platform performance, and cost considerations.
Understanding of AI-ready data concepts, including metadata, semantic definitions, data quality, lineage, governance, and controlled access to enterprise information.
Exposure to generative AI capabilities within modern data platforms, including semantic models, natural-language analytics, search, or LLM-enabled data experiences.
Experience working with enterprise BI and visualization platforms such as Qlik, Power BI, Tableau, or similar technologies.
Demonstrated experience working directly with business stakeholders to conduct discovery, define requirements, manage expectations, and drive adoption.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting data initiatives within manufacturing, supply chain, industrial operations, or another complex enterprise environment.
Knowledge of ERP and enterprise operational data, including platforms such as SAP, Infor, Oracle, or similar systems.
Experience with master data management, enterprise data governance, and data quality programs.
Working familiarity with SQL, Python, dbt, or comparable data technologies is beneficial but does not require a software engineering background.
Product management, Agile, or data governance certifications are a plus.
Experience establishing data service expectations, data contracts, domain ownership models, or distributed/federated data management practices.
Key Attributes
The successful candidate will bring a combination of strong product ownership, business partnership, data literacy, prioritization, stakeholder management, and cross-functional leadership. This individual should be comfortable making trade-offs, influencing teams without direct authority, and balancing speed of delivery with appropriate data quality, governance, and risk controls.
