IT Support Technician

This is a hands-on, generalist IT role with real variety and room to grow within an iconic New Zealand-owned business, with a commitment to quality, long-term thinking and strong culture.

Whittaker’s is looking for an experienced IT Support Technician to join a small, high performing IT team. This is a broad, hands-on role where you’ll work across the technology environment and with people throughout the business.

We’re looking for someone who continues to ask, “What could we do better?”, identifies opportunities and takes ownership of making improvements happen.

What You’ll be Doing

No two days are likely to look the same. You could be:

• Troubleshooting hardware, software, application or connectivity issues
• Checking server and system health and investigating anything that doesn’t look right
• Building PCs and setting up laptops, phones and other devices
• Managing the IT side of onboarding and offboarding employees
• Providing hands-on support across the business, from everyday user issues through to more complex technical problems
• Working across Microsoft environments, systems, infrastructure and networking
• Coordinating external providers across networking, security, telecommunications and other specialist areas
• Getting to the root cause of recurring problems rather than simply applying a quick fix
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and ways of working
• Contributing to technology projects, upgrades and new solutions
• Owning problems end to end and bringing in specialist expertise when you need it

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be a strong IT all-rounder who has built a broad technical foundation and enjoys figuring things out.

You’ll likely bring:

• Solid experience in IT support, systems or a similarly broad technical role
• Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software and Microsoft environments
• Exposure to servers, networking and infrastructure
• Confidence working independently and taking ownership of technical issues with end to end solution design
• Experience working with external vendors or technology providers
• The ability to explain technical concepts in straightforward language
• A proactive mindset and an interest in finding ways technology can work better for the business
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in straightforward language for varying levels of technical knowledge and confidence
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work with everyone from new employees and operational teams through to senior leaders
• The ability to wear multiple hats and get involved in whatever needs doing

This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional IT support and own, understand and improve a complete technology environment.

You’ll have the variety of a hands-on generalist role, direct exposure to the wider business, and the autonomy to find better ways of doing things. You’ll also work closely with an experienced IT Manager, with the opportunity to broaden your skills and genuine career development opportunities.
