IT System Administrator – Data Center (m/f/d)

Key Responsibilities

• Support the setup, operation, and continuous development of a modern data center infrastructure.
• Assemble, configure, test, and install physical server hardware, including rack mounting and cabling (copper and fiber optic).
• Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, VLANs, and routing.
• Install and configure Linux operating systems (Red Hat, Ubuntu), preferably using automated deployment tools such as PXE, Ansible, or Puppet.
• Operate, maintain, and optimize virtualization environments, particularly Proxmox.
• Monitor server infrastructure, troubleshoot hardware and system failures, and replace defective components.
• Support Linux server administration, configuration management (Puppet), and infrastructure monitoring (CheckMk).
• Administer and maintain server technologies such as Redis, RabbitMQ, Solr Cloud, ELK Stack, and MySQL/Percona databases.
• Implement, maintain, and monitor local and cloud-based backup solutions.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation, operational improvements, and the development of technical standards.

Required Skills & Experience

• Several years of professional experience as an IT System Administrator, preferably in a data center environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with physical server hardware, including assembly, installation, rack mounting, cabling, and troubleshooting.
• Solid networking knowledge, including switch and firewall configuration, VLANs, routing, and network cabling.
• Practical experience managing virtualization platforms.
• Strong Linux administration skills (Red Hat, Ubuntu, or similar distributions), including command-line operations.
• Understanding of infrastructure automation and automated system deployment.
• Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work fully on-site in the Gotha/Eisenach area.
• Very good German (C1) or English (C1) communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Proxmox virtualization.
• Knowledge of Puppet, Ansible , or similar configuration management tools.
• Experience with monitoring solutions such as CheckMk .
• Knowledge of web servers such as Apache or Nginx .
• Familiarity with Redis, RabbitMQ, Solr, ELK Stack , and MySQL/Percona .
• Experience with Kubernetes (K8s) .
• Knowledge of load balancers and wireless networking technologies.
