Job Summary
The IT Systems Applications Lead is responsible for the overall management, governance, performance, security, availability, and continuous optimization of the organization's enterprise applications and business software portfolio.
Serving as a strategic bridge between business units and IT, this role provides operational leadership across core systems, application support, system integrations, software enhancements, and technology projects. The position oversees internal technical staff and third-party software vendors, manages application-related budgets and contracts, and ensures that systems are reliable, scalable, secure, and fully aligned with organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
1. Application Strategy, Architecture & Governance
- Formulate and implement the organization's IT applications roadmap, portfolio architecture, and governance frameworks aligned with overall business strategy.
- Maintain oversight across the full enterprise software ecosystem (e.g., ERP, HRIS, CRM, Finance, Supply Chain, and operational software platforms).
- Establish standardized policies, procedures, and controls for application administration, support workflows, code/configuration changes, security access, and lifecycle management.
- Regularly evaluate the application portfolio to recommend enhancements, platform modernizations, system consolidations, or new software deployments.
2. Application Operations & Service Delivery
- Oversee day-to-day operational availability, performance, stability, and Level 2/3 technical support for core business systems.
- Define and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), incident management, problem management, and change control procedures.
- Serve as the senior technical escalation lead for major application outages or performance bottlenecks impacting operational continuity.
- Drive root-cause analyses (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives to minimize system downtime, recurring support tickets, and manual workarounds.
3. System Integrations & Data Management
- Architect and manage system integrations using APIs, sFTP, middleware, ETL tools, or web services for seamless cross-platform data exchange.
- Ensure data synchronization, data integrity, and secure data mapping across internal databases and third-party SaaS platforms.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Data teams to maintain end-to-end data security, query performance, and system reliability.
4. Project Management & Business Partnership
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of application projects, software rollouts, and major system upgrades—including requirements gathering, vendor evaluation, testing, migration, go-live, and post-stabilization.
- Partner directly with business unit heads (Finance, HR, Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing) to translate operational requirements into scalable technology solutions.
- Identify opportunities to streamline business processes through workflow automation, system integrations, and digital transformation initiatives.
5. Application Security, Compliance & Vendor Governance
- Enforce application-level security controls, role-based access permissions, segregation of duties (SoD), and audit logging in compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Coordinate system backups, business continuity planning (BCP), and disaster recovery (DR) testing for critical business applications.
- Manage relationships with software vendors, system integrators, and third-party technology partners—evaluating contract terms, licensing utilization, SLAs, and deliverables.
6. Team Leadership, Financials & Reporting
- Supervise, mentor, and build technical capabilities within the IT Applications team, managing workload priorities, project assignments, and performance reviews.
- Assist in developing and tracking the annual IT Applications operating and capital budgets, identifying cost-optimization and license consolidation opportunities.
- Prepare regular executive dashboards on system availability, incident trends, project milestones, SLA compliance, and software utilization.
