Jail Licensed Practical Nurse

Employment Status: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Experience Required: Must have at minimum an ATP letter or a License Practical Nurse with a current unrestricted VA state license, courses in First Aid and CPR, and extensive experience in nursing

**Minimum Education Requirements:**High School Diploma/GED

Direct Supervisor: Medical Team Administrator and under the general supervision of the Jail Captain

Primary Work Location: Jail

Physical requirements: This work requires the exertion of up to and exceeding 10-25 frequently and 50 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; requires frequent standing, walking, twisting, and bending.

Certification: Valid Driver’s License

Job Summary: This individual performs medical services and care for the inmates at the Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail; does related work as required.

Essential Job Functions

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:

• Provides medical care to all inmates
• Ability to carry out daily inspections and counts in the medical unit
• Prepares detailed reports documenting medical consultations and follow-ups for inmates
• Conducts medical rounds and sick calls for inmates

Knowledge

• Knowledge of the modern medical practices within the penology setting
• Proven experience in the field of nursing, with a current Virginia license

Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Detail oriented with records and reports

Abilities

• Ability to coordinate efforts with a wide range of medical professionals and mental health services
• Ability to walk stairs and work required shifts
• Regular work attendance is required
