Java Architect

The Java Backend Technical Architect will own the technical architecture, design, modernization, and operational stability of enterprise backend platforms. This is a hands-on architecture role requiring deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot microservices, Apache Kafka, MySQL, Kubernetes, and cloud-native application design. The architect will provide technical direction while remaining actively involved in solution design, code reviews, complex implementation decisions, performance optimization, and production issue resolution. During the transition period, the architect will lead the understanding and documentation of existing business logic, service boundaries, integrations, dependencies, and data flows across the application portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Own the backend architecture and technical direction of enterprise application platforms.
• Assess and document service responsibilities, business logic, API contracts, data flows, external integrations, dependencies, failure scenarios, and security considerations.
• Define scalable, secure, maintainable, and high-performance architecture using Java and Spring Boot.
• Design and review REST APIs consumed by frontend applications, internal services, and external systems.
• Establish API standards for versioning, validation, error handling, security, documentation, backward compatibility, and performance.
• Design Kafka-based event-driven workflows, including producers, consumers, topics, partitions, consumer groups, retry mechanisms, dead-letter handling, idempotency, and failure recovery.
• Lead integration design for internal business platforms, identity systems, notification services, secrets-management platforms, and third-party applications.
• Define abstraction and integration patterns that reduce coupling and improve maintainability.
• Review existing systems and recommend improvements for scalability, availability, resilience, security, and operational efficiency.
• Identify technical debt and prepare practical remediation and modernization roadmaps.
• Define coding standards, design patterns, architectural guidelines, and technical governance processes.
• Conduct architecture reviews, detailed design reviews, and code reviews.
• Provide hands-on support for complex development activities, proof-of-concept implementations, and critical production fixes.
• Guide database design, transaction management, indexing, query optimization, data consistency, and performance tuning.
• Define authentication and authorization patterns using JWT, OAuth 2.0, and token-based security.
• Define containerization, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, deployment, rollback, observability, and operational-support standards.
• Lead technical investigation and root-cause analysis for critical L3/L4 production incidents.
• Define unit, integration, regression, and service-level testing strategies.
• Create and review architecture diagrams, technical designs, deployment procedures, operational runbooks, and other technical documentation.
• Mentor developers and collaborate with client architects, engineering, DevOps, QA, product, and delivery stakeholders across locations and time zones.

Mandatory Qualifications

• Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• At least 10 years of backend software development experience, including at least three years in an architecture, principal-engineering, or technical-leadership role.

• Expert-level proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.

• Strong experience designing and operating enterprise-grade microservices and distributed systems.

• Strong understanding of domain-driven design, service decomposition, design patterns, event-driven architecture, resilience patterns, and high availability.

• Extensive Apache Kafka experience covering producer and consumer design, topics, partitions, consumer groups, ordering, retries, dead-letter handling, idempotency, recovery, and performance optimization.

• Strong MySQL experience covering data modelling, complex queries, transactions, indexing, concurrency, and performance tuning.

• Hands-on experience designing and deploying applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.

• Strong experience with Kubernetes deployments, ConfigMaps, Secrets, health checks, autoscaling, service discovery, resource management, and rollback strategies.

• Strong experience designing secure REST APIs using OpenAPI or Swagger, including lifecycle, versioning, compatibility, and error-handling standards.

• Experience with JWT, OAuth 2.0, secure coding, secrets management, and vulnerability remediation.

• Experience integrating enterprise applications with internal and third-party platforms.

• Experience designing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Argo CD.

• Strong experience diagnosing performance, stability, scalability, and production issues.

• Proficiency with Git and modern branching and release-management practices.

• Strong technical communication, documentation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.

  Desired Qualifications

• Experience with Spring Cloud, Spring Batch, and Spring Scheduler.

• Experience with HashiCorp Vault for secrets and certificate management.

• Experience with Strimzi Operator and operating Kafka on Kubernetes.

• Experience implementing observability using Prometheus, Micrometer, Grafana, centralized logging, distributed tracing, and APM tools.

• Familiarity with service-mesh technologies such as Istio or Envoy.

• Experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, Testcontainers, and automated quality gates.

• Experience with AWS and services such as EKS, RDS, MSK, OpenSearch, CloudWatch, and IAM.

• Knowledge of telecom, subscription-management, or large-scale digital platforms is an advantage.

• Experience leading legacy-platform modernization or microservices-transformation initiatives.

• Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, CKAD, CKA, or Java certification.
