Java Backend Developer (Spring Boot / Microservices / Gamification)

About the role

Social Multiway Sdn Bhd is seeking a talented Java Backend Developer specialising in Spring Boot, Microservices and Gamification to join our growing technology team. This is a full-time position based in Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Kuala Lumpur. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining robust backend systems that power our innovative digital solutions. You will work on scalable microservices architecture, contribute to gamification features that enhance user engagement, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. This position is integral to our mission of creating cutting-edge technology products that drive business value and user satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot framework
• Build and maintain microservices architecture to ensure system modularity, scalability and resilience
• Develop gamification features and mechanics that enhance user engagement and retention
• Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code adhering to established coding standards
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate with team members to ensure code quality and knowledge sharing
• Troubleshoot, debug and optimise existing backend systems for performance and reliability
• Work with databases and implement efficient data storage and retrieval mechanisms
• Integrate third-party APIs and services to extend application functionality
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis to deployment and maintenance
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• 2+ years of professional experience in Java backend development
• Strong expertise in Spring Boot framework and microservices architecture
• Experience with RESTful API design and development
• Proficiency in relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL or Oracle
• Familiarity with version control systems, preferably Git
• Understanding of software design patterns and SOLID principles
• Experience with gamification concepts and user engagement strategies (preferred)
• Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes (preferred)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (preferred)
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Experience with agile development methodologies
