Java Developer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Analyst Programmer to join our Hong Kong-based technology client. The successful candidate will be responsible for system analysis and backend development, working closely with the Hong Kong-based team on a large-scale and highly sensitive project. This role will involve regular communication with the client's Hong Kong HQ and stakeholders, so Cantonese-speaking ability is a must-have. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with teams across Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse business and system requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain backend applications using Java.
• Work with Redis and relational databases to support application performance and scalability.
• Develop and optimise SQL queries and database solutions.
• Participate in system design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation.
• Work within a DevSecOps environment and follow secure software development practices.
• Collaborate with developers, system analysts, project stakeholders, and the Hong Kong-based team.
• Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, discussions, and delivery.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Communicate regularly with Hong Kong HQ and clients to clarify requirements and provide technical updates.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 3–8 years of experience in system analysis and backend development.
• Strong proficiency in Java.
• Hands-on experience with Redis.
• Experience working in a DevSecOps or DevOps environment.
• Strong knowledge of RDBMS and SQL, with experience in one or more of the following: Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server.
• Strong understanding of SQL optimisation and database performance.
• Cantonese-speaking ability is mandatory due to regular communication with Hong Kong HQ and clients.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as effectively within an Agile team.
