Java Developer - Leading Digital Bank

Our client is a leading digital banking institution in Hong Kong, seeking a Backend Engineer to join its technology team.

This is an exciting opportunity to build and scale modern digital banking platforms using cloud-native technologies, microservices, and event-driven architectures. You will work in a high-performing engineering environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop secure, scalable, and reliable backend services that support innovative digital banking experiences.

You will be involved in the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through deployment, monitoring, and production support, with a strong focus on engineering excellence, automation, and continuous delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Backend Development: Design, develop, and continuously improve backend systems and services using Kotlin or Java within a cloud-native microservices architecture.
• API & Microservices: Build RESTful APIs and event-driven microservices, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and backward compatibility.
• System Architecture: Design and operate distributed systems, working with event streams and relational databases to support reliable and efficient service delivery.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Deploy and operate backend services using containers, orchestration platforms, and cloud environments such as AWS.
• DevOps & Automation: Implement and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and continuous delivery practices to streamline software releases.
• Quality & Testing: Write clean, maintainable code and implement comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure software quality and system reliability.
• Production Support: Monitor live services, respond to incidents, troubleshoot issues, and take end-to-end ownership of service performance and availability.
• Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with product, technology, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions in an Agile environment while continuously improving engineering practices.
• AI-Assisted Development: Explore and apply AI-assisted software development tools and workflows to improve engineering productivity and efficiency.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• 2+ years of hands-on backend development experience using Kotlin or Java.
• Solid understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs, working with relational databases, and implementing automated unit and integration tests.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and AWS or similar cloud environments.
• Familiarity with containers and orchestration platforms.
• Strong ownership of production services, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted software development workflows is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
