Java Software Engineer – Airline Solutions

A Day in the Life of the Java Software Engineer – Airline Solutions - About the role:

• Design and develop reusable software components using Java 21 for our cloud-native microservices-based software platform with an emphasis on scalability and performance.
• Design and develop high-volume, low-latency applications and deliver high-availability and performance.
• Take ownership of assigned development tasks and contribute to technical and design decisions within your area.
• Collaborate with an international team of engineering and product experts to understand requirements and contribute to the design and implementation of system functionality.
• Join forces with tech leads and architects to incorporate industry best practices and company standards.
• Leverage AI-powered tools and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, enhance decision-making, and drive innovation within day-to-day responsibilities.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge exchange with colleagues.
• Investigate technical challenges, propose solutions, and contribute to continuous technical improvements.
• Contribute to technical documentation.
• Create unit and integration tests and assist the QA team in validation testing.
• Efficiently utilize DevOps tools and practices to build and deploy software.
• Support the DevOps/Cloud Services team in case of deployment or production issues.

Required Qualifications - About you:

• Hands-on experience in the airline industry and a solid understanding of Airline IT, systems, and business processes.
• 3+ years of experience developing Java applications, ideally in complex, large-scale environments.
• Experience developing server-side REST APIs.
• Experience with some of the following: multi-threading, streaming, messaging, performance optimization, and horizontal scalability.
• Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL technologies.
• Good understanding of OOP, design patterns, SOLID principles, and microservices architecture.
• Understanding of algorithmic complexity and common Java data structures, including their time and space complexity.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with good verbal and written communication skills.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies in depth.
• Interest in continuously developing deeper functional and airline domain expertise.

Highly Preferred:

• University degree in Computer Science or related field
• Familiarity with MS Azure or another cloud platform
• Experience with an Agile development process (Scrum, Kanban)
• Experience with Behavior and/or Test-Driven Development (BDD/TDD)
• Familiarity with Jenkins or other CI/CD products
• Working knowledge of Git, Jira, and Confluence
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
