Java Squad lead

Job Summary

The Java Squad Lead is responsible for leading a cross-functional software development squad, delivering high-quality Java-based applications, and ensuring alignment with business objectives. The role combines hands-on technical leadership, agile team management, architecture oversight, and stakeholder collaboration to drive successful product delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise-grade Java applications.
• Define technical solutions and ensure adherence to architecture standards and best practices.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure high code quality, security, and performance.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive root-cause analysis.
• Guide the squad on system design, scalability, and cloud-native development.

Team Leadership

• Manage and mentor software engineers within the squad.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
• Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance team culture.
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and technical coaching sessions.

Agile Delivery

• Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily standups, and retrospectives.
• Ensure on-time delivery of projects and releases.
• Work closely with Product Owners, QA Engineers, DevOps, and other stakeholders.
• Monitor squad performance and continuously improve development processes.

Stakeholder Management

• Translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies to leadership.
• Collaborate with architecture, infrastructure, and security teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience with Java.
• 2+ years of experience leading development teams or agile squads.
• Strong experience with:
• Java 11/17+
• Spring Boot
• Microservices Architecture
• REST APIs
• SQL/NoSQL Databases
• Git and CI/CD Pipelines
• Docker & Kubernetes
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and architecture principles.
