Java Technical Lead / Technical Owner

Overview We are looking for an experienced Java Technical Lead / Technical Owner to join our product team and take technical ownership of a Risk, Fraud Detection, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) platform. You will play a key role in shaping the architecture and technical direction of solutions that help detect fraudulent activities, assess transaction risks, monitor suspicious transactions, and strengthen financial risk controls.

Working closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Security teams, you will translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions that support real-time decision-making and evolving business needs.

Responsibilities

• Technical Architecture & Ownership: Design and maintain the technical architecture of Risk, Fraud Detection, and AML products, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and high availability.
• Real-time Risk & Fraud Processing: Design and optimize systems for real-time transaction monitoring, risk assessment, fraud detection, and suspicious activity identification.
• Rules Engine & Decisioning: Drive the architecture of configurable rule engines, risk scoring, decisioning workflows, and policy management to support evolving business and risk requirements.
• System Design & Performance: Translate functional and non-functional requirements into architecture and solution designs, with a focus on low latency, high throughput, fault tolerance, and data consistency.
• Event-driven Architecture: Design event-driven, microservices-based systems for processing transactions, behavioral signals, and risk events using messaging and streaming technologies.
• Technical Excellence: Identify technical debt, drive refactoring and performance optimization, and establish engineering best practices across the development lifecycle.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Owners, Risk Operations, Data, Security, and Engineering teams to translate business and regulatory requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Technical Leadership: Mentor engineers and guide implementation practices in software architecture, domain-driven design (DDD), API design, testing, and cloud infrastructure.
• Technology Innovation: Evaluate emerging technologies and architectural approaches to improve risk detection capabilities, system performance, and developer productivity.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of hands-on software development experience, with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven experience designing and deploying microservices-based and event-driven architectures in production environments.
• Solid experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL/in-memory technologies (Elasticsearch, Redis).
• Experience designing high-throughput, low-latency systems that process large volumes of transactions or events.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, idempotency, and data consistency.
• Experience in one or more relevant domains, such as fraud detection, transaction monitoring, risk management, AML, KYC, payment processing, digital banking, or e-wallets.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and experience mentoring engineering teams.
