What they need

Joinery Manager

Corbel Joinery Ltd | Castle Cary, Somerset

Corbel Joinery is looking for an experienced Joinery Manager to take a leading role within our growing specialist joinery business.

Part of the wider Corbel group, Corbel Joinery delivers high-quality architectural joinery, cabinetry and specialist timber work, with a particular strength in heritage buildings, high-end residential projects and complex refurbishment.

We are looking for someone with substantial experience within the joinery industry who combines strong technical knowledge with the commercial and organisational ability to manage work from initial enquiry through to manufacture, installation and completion.

Ideally, you will have previously managed or run a joinery business, department or significant joinery operation and understand what is required to deliver exceptional work while maintaining programme, margin and customer satisfaction.

The role

Working closely with our experienced Workshop Manager and the wider Corbel team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and coordination of Corbel Joinery's workload.

You will be involved from the earliest stages of an enquiry, helping clients and design teams develop their requirements before ensuring the right information, materials and resources are in place for manufacture and installation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing new enquiries and developing opportunities into secured work.
  • Meeting clients, architects, designers and contractors to understand project requirements.
  • Surveying and attending projects where required.
  • Preparing estimates, quotations and budgets for joinery packages.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical information.
  • Planning and scheduling work through the joinery office and workshop.
  • Working hand in hand with the Workshop Manager to ensure information is complete and production is properly coordinated.
  • Procuring timber, ironmongery, fittings and specialist materials.
  • Monitoring project costs, programme and commercial performance.
  • Coordinating installation and site activities.
  • Maintaining clear and professional communication with clients throughout each project.
  • Ensuring Corbel's standards of craftsmanship, presentation and service are maintained at every stage.

Who we are looking for

This is not an entry-level management position. We are looking for someone who already has a high level of knowledge and experience within architectural joinery and cabinetmaking and is comfortable taking responsibility for both the technical and commercial aspects of the business.

You may currently be a Joinery Manager, Production Manager, Contracts Manager, Senior Estimator or Director/Owner of a smaller joinery business looking for a new challenge.

The right person is likely to have:

  • Extensive experience within high-quality architectural joinery, cabinetry or specialist joinery.
  • Strong technical understanding of joinery manufacture and installation.
  • Experience estimating and pricing joinery projects.
  • The ability to read and interrogate drawings and specifications.
  • Experience planning and scheduling multiple projects through a workshop.
  • Good knowledge of timber, hardware, finishes and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of cost, margin and productivity.
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients, architects and designers.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and the ability to make informed decisions.

Previous experience running a joinery business or substantial joinery department would be particularly valuable.
