Joint Fires Observer Instructor / PTAC
Location: Fort Sill, Oklahoma
Job Type: Full-time
Work Location: On-site, with domestic and international travel
Salary: TBD, based on experience (BOE)
Position Overview:
Leading Solutions, LLC is seeking qualified Joint Fires Observer (JFO) Instructors to support the Fires Center of Excellence and the 428th Field Artillery Brigade at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Instructors will provide classroom, simulator, practical exercise, and field instruction to U.S. military and coalition students. This position supports resident courses and Mobile Training Teams and requires documented experience as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) or Forward Air Controller (Airborne), FAC(A).
Key Responsibilities:
· Deliver JFO instruction using Government-approved programs of instruction, lesson plans, and training materials.
· Teach and evaluate students on close air support, observed fire procedures, and JFO tactics, techniques, and procedures.
· Operate the Call for Fire Trainer (CFFT) or Deployable Virtual Training Environment (DVTE), including preparing, loading, modifying, and troubleshooting training scenarios.
· Prepare classrooms, simulators, communications equipment, and instructional materials before training.
· Administer examinations, evaluate student performance, maintain attendance information, and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.
· Review and recommend updates to lesson plans, student handouts, examinations, and simulation scenarios.
· Maintain current knowledge of JFO doctrine, equipment, procedures, and lessons learned.
· Support instructor evaluations, certification requirements, and recurring sustainment training.
· Set up, dismantle, load, unload, and prepare training equipment for shipment.
· Maintain training records and safeguard Government equipment and information.
· Support Mobile Training Team assignments within and outside the continental United States.
Required Qualifications:
· Meet one of the following experience pathways:
· At least three years of verifiable JTAC experience following qualification and certification, including three years of active operational service performing JTAC duties; or
· Completion of a FAC(A) course and at least three years of verifiable FAC(A) experience, including three years of active operational service performing FAC(A) duties; or
· At least eight years of continuous active military service combined with a minimum of two years of operational JTAC/FAC(A) experience.
· Provide official documentation verifying qualifying experience. Accepted documentation includes AF Form 8, AF Form 3827, a Terminal Attack Control Evaluation form, an official flight record for FAC(A) experience, or an applicable service equivalent.
· At least six months of experience operating the CFFT or DVTE, including starting and shutting down the simulator, troubleshooting, and creating, loading, and changing scenarios.
· Read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
· Communicate effectively with students, military cadre, Government representatives, and coworkers.
· Meet installation access requirements and obtain and maintain a Common Access Card.
· Complete required instructor certification and maintain certification throughout employment.
· Sign and comply with DD Form 2982, Recruiter/Trainer Prohibited Activities Acknowledgement.
Guard or Reserve experience must reflect the required cumulative active operational duty time. Three calendar years of routine monthly drills and annual training alone do not satisfy the three-year operational experience requirement. The PWS does not permit waivers of minimum instructor qualifications.
Instructor Certification
Selected candidates must complete the required JFO course audit, applicable Common Faculty Development Instructor Course or accepted equivalent, and certification on seven academic blocks and all required simulator blocks. Instructors must receive written certification from the 428th Field Artillery Brigade Commander and successfully complete recurring evaluations.
Candidates who are not currently certified must complete the Government-required certification process within the contract’s designated phase-in period.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Current JFO instructor certification.
· Recent Common Faculty Development Instructor Course certification or an accepted equivalent.
· Experience delivering resident and Mobile Training Team instruction.
· Experience developing military courseware, evaluating students, and maintaining instructor training records.
Schedule, Travel, and Physical Requirements
· Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
· Early morning, evening, and weekend support may be required for training and exercises.
· Domestic and international travel is required as mission needs dictate. Some assignments may involve as little as 48 hours’ notice.
· A valid passport is required for international travel.
· Duties include classroom, simulator, and field activities and the safe loading and unloading of equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
Other Qualifications:
· Frequent use of hands and arms; prolonged sitting may be required.
· Specific vision abilities: close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
· Ability to interpret instructions involving multiple abstract and concrete variables.
