Junior Accountant Part Time

Pasar Mart UK Ltd is a UK-based Malaysian and Asian DTC, Wholesale, Grocery distribution business operating through Shopify and wholesale channels. We have fulfilled over 22,000 orders and work with suppliers across Malaysia and the UK.

We are looking for a reliable, hands-on accountant based in Malaysia to manage our bookkeeping, reconciliations, UK VAT preparation and financial reporting. You will work directly with the Founder and help keep our finances accurate, organised and useful for business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate Xero records and reconcile bank accounts, cards, invoices, expenses and payment platforms.
• Reconcile Shopify and PayPal sales, payouts, refunds, discounts, shipping income, chargebacks and payment fees.
• Prepare UK VAT returns and supporting records, including product-level VAT coding, Making Tax Digital, eligible input VAT, reverse charges and import VAT.
• Handle GBP/MYR and other currency transactions, including exchange rates, transfer fees and foreign exchange differences.
• Maintain inventory, supplier deposits and stock-in-transit records. Calculate landed costs and cost of goods sold, including freight, customs duty and clearance costs.
• Reconcile supplier statements, credit notes, wholesale receivables, director’s loans and inter-account transfers. Separate loan principal from interest and fees.
• Prepare monthly profit and loss, balance sheet and cash-flow reports. Track upcoming payments and flag cash-flow or margin concerns promptly.
• Prepare year-end schedules for statutory accounts and Corporation Tax, support payroll reconciliations and improve accounting processes.

Requirements

• At least one - three years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, including work for UK businesses.
• Practical knowledge of UK VAT, including imports and products with different VAT treatments.
• Strong Xero skills and experience with Shopify or similar ecommerce accounting.
• Experience with multicurrency bookkeeping and overseas supplier payments.
• Good understanding of inventory, accruals, director’s loans and UK limited-company accounting requirements.
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
• Clear English, attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
• Reliable internet and availability for regular overlap with UK working hours.

An accounting qualification, ACCA/ACA/CIMA background or relevant MIA membership is desirable. Part-qualified applicants with strong practical experience are welcome. Grocery, wholesale and UK–Malaysia trade experience would be an advantage.

Working arrangements

Remote, Malaysia-based. Initially 15 hours per week, with agreed working times. Pay is RM750–RM1,500 per month, depending on experience.
