What they need
Purpose of the Role
Alchemist is hiring a Junior AI & Automation Engineer on a 12-month fixed-term contract to help our people and clients get real value from business AI assistants, run workshops that turn ideas into practical use cases, and build internal automation alongside the CTO.
About Alchemist
Alchemist Group (Alchemist Learning & Development and RAIN Group) is a leadership development and sales training business serving enterprise corporate and public sector clients worldwide. We combine immersive, experiential learning with digital tools, including our Learning Journey App and online content.
The group has grown through the merger of Apex and Interact and the 2024 acquisition of Boston-based RAIN Group. We now operate globally with employees across the UK, US and Australia, and AI is central to how we intend to scale experiential learning and run the business efficiently.
We have an AI Strategy, AI Policy and Approved AI Tools Register aligned to ISO/IEC 42001. This role helps turn that strategy into working, well-governed systems.
Purpose of the role
The Junior AI & Automation Engineer helps Alchemist and its clients adopt Automation & business-grade AI assistants safely and productively. You will spend your time across three areas: configuring and getting the most from our enterprise AI assistant platforms, facilitating workshops and meetings that surface and shape AI & Automation use cases, and working with the CTO to build internal automation and improve the customer journey.
This is a 12-month development role. You will work day to day with the CTO, with structured support, coaching and regular reviews, and leave with hands-on experience of taking AI & Automation from idea to everyday use in a growing business.
Key responsibilities
Business AI assistants
- Help administer and configure our enterprise AI assistant platforms, including workspaces, projects, shared prompts, knowledge sources and connected apps
- Build reusable assets such as prompt libraries, custom assistants, templates and step-by-step guides for common tasks
- Test new features as the platforms evolve and recommend what should be adopted, and how
- Provide first-line support to colleagues using the tools and track common questions and issues
Use case workshops and stakeholder engagement
- Plan and facilitate discovery workshops and meetings with internal teams and clients to identify where AI & Automation can help
- Capture, assess and prioritise use cases by value, effort and risk, and maintain a clear use case backlog
- Turn agreed use cases into working prototypes and demonstrations that people can try
- Write up workshop outputs, recommendations and next steps clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Support client-facing conversations where AI forms part of Alchemist's learning solutions
Internal automation and customer journey
- Work with the CTO to design, build and maintain internal automation toolsets that cut manual effort in sales, delivery and operations
- Map current processes, identify bottlenecks and propose AI-enabled improvements
- Help improve the customer journey, from first enquiry through to programme delivery and follow-up, using AI and automation
- Measure the time saved, quality gained and user feedback for each automation, and report results to the CTO
Governance and adoption
- Make sure every use case and tool follows the AI Policy and is recorded on the Approved AI Tools Register
- Contribute to AI System Impact Assessments and DPIAs for new use cases
- Run short training sessions, drop-in clinics and demos to build confidence and good habits across the business
- Document configurations, automations and guidance so they can be supported after the contract ends
Essential skills and experience
- Up to 2 years' experience in a technical, digital, automation or analyst role, or a relevant degree, bootcamp or apprenticeship
- Confident, regular hands-on use of business AI assistants, including writing effective prompts and setting up shared workspaces or custom assistants
- Experience running or co-running workshops, meetings or training sessions
- Ability to understand a business process and explain how AI or automation could improve it
- Basic understanding of no-code or low-code automation tools, APIs or scripting
- Awareness of data protection and why it matters when using AI with personal or client data
- Clear written and spoken communication, and the confidence to work with senior stakeholders and clients
Desirable skills
- Python or JavaScript for simple scripts and integrations
- Experience administering software-as-a-service platforms in a business setting
- Familiarity with workflow automation platforms and connecting business applications
- Experience in learning and development, training, consulting or customer success
- A portfolio of AI prompts, assistants or automations you have built
- Awareness of ISO/IEC 42001 or the EU AI Act
Governance, security and compliance
Everything you work on must meet our AI Policy and information security standards. You will receive training on these, and in practice you will:
- Use only approved AI platforms and settings, with workspace permissions and data sharing configured to policy
- Follow the AI tool approval process, with an AI System Impact Assessment and DPIA where required, before a use case goes live
- Handle personal and client data in line with UK GDPR, client contracts and data minimisation rules
- Keep a human in the loop for any AI output used in client deliverables, learner feedback or decisions about people
- Report AI incidents and misuse through the agreed security incident process
You will be required to pass pre-employment screening, including right-to-work and reference checks.
