We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Auditor to support our engagement teams and develop practical experience in financial statement audits.
Position Summary
Working under the supervision of senior team members and engagement partners, you will perform assigned audit procedures, prepare working papers, and assist with financial statement preparation and review. This role is suitable for a recent accounting graduate or a candidate with early public accounting experience who is interested in building a career in audit and assurance.
Key Responsibilities

- Obtain and examine supporting documents for financial statement balances and transactions, including cash, receivables, payables, inventory, revenue, expenses, and other assigned areas.
- Prepare reconciliations, lead schedules, analytical comparisons, and other audit working papers, clearly documenting procedures performed, evidence obtained, results, and conclusions.
- Assist with audit confirmations, inventory count observations, transaction testing, and other evidence-gathering procedures.
- Assist in documenting an understanding of client operations, accounting processes, and internal controls, including walkthroughs and assigned control testing.
- Identify discrepancies, unusual transactions, missing information, and potential audit issues, and promptly discuss them with the engagement supervisor.
- Address review comments and update working papers accurately and promptly.
- Maintain organized engagement files and follow firm requirements for documentation, confidentiality, and file completion.
- Keep supervisors informed of progress, outstanding items, and matters that may affect the engagement timetable or budget.
- Manage assigned tasks and deadlines, maintain accurate and timely timesheets, and coordinate priorities when working on multiple engagements.
- Participate in team discussions and training, apply feedback, and comply with firm policies on ethics, independence, confidentiality, and audit quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Interest in pursuing the CPA designation; enrolment in the CPA program or progress toward eligibility is an asset.
- Entry-level candidates are welcome. Audit, accounting, internship, or co-op experience in a public accounting or professional services environment is an asset.
- Foundational knowledge of accounting principles and an interest in financial reporting and auditing, including IFRS and Canadian Auditing Standards.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyze financial information and prepare clear, organized documentation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and a professional approach to working with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and ask for guidance when needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with CaseWare or other audit software is an asset.
- Integrity, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential information.
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and take responsibility for assigned work.
- Ability to work on site in Markham and attend client locations or inventory observations as required.
