About the Role

We're looking for a Junior Backend Engineer to help build and maintain the services behind Chekhub's platform. You'll work closely with senior engineers, product, and the front-end team to develop the APIs, data pipelines, and cloud services that mission critical teams rely on every day. This is a hands-on role for someone who is eager to learn and teaches themselves new skills, with mentorship and room to grow as the team scales.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs that power Chekhub's platform.
• Collaborate with senior engineers through code reviews and pairing, following established architecture and engineering standards.
• Partner with front-end engineers and product to ship features end to end.
• Help investigate and resolve issues across services and data.
• Other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned or as business needs require.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in backend development (professional, internship, or substantial project work), ideally within a B2B SaaS environment.
• Working proficiency in Node.js and server-side JavaScript.
• Familiarity with MongoDB and Google BigQuery (or similar NoSQL and SQL databases).
• Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs, and using version control (Git).
• Basic understanding of authentication, authorization, and security best practices.
• Familiarity with AI tools for productivity (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar).
• Eager, self-driven learner who picks up new tools and technologies independently and thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment.
• Must be located in the Raleigh, NC area.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud-based services.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Interest in or exposure to Google Vertex AI or other AI/ML platforms.
• A portfolio, GitHub, or personal projects showcasing backend work.
