A leading global technology-driven trading firm is looking for a Junior Technology Operations / SRE Engineer to join its engineering team.

The firm builds and operates highly specialised technology that supports trading activity across global financial markets. Its engineering environment combines software, infrastructure, networking and operations, with a strong focus on reliability, automation and performance.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to develop within a technically demanding production environment and gain exposure to trading systems, Linux infrastructure and site reliability engineering.

The role

As a Junior Technology Operations / SRE Engineer, you will help monitor, support and improve the systems that underpin the firm’s trading operations.

You will work closely with experienced engineers, developers, traders and infrastructure specialists to identify issues, restore services, automate repetitive tasks and improve the reliability of production systems.

The role would suit someone with strong technical fundamentals who enjoys troubleshooting, learning how complex systems work and taking ownership of operational problems.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor production systems, trading applications, servers and network infrastructure.
• Investigate alerts, performance issues and system anomalies.
• Provide first-line technical support for production and trading-system incidents.
• Troubleshoot across the Linux, application, hardware and networking layers.
• Escalate complex issues to senior engineers and development teams when required.
• Assist with incident response, root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
• Create and maintain monitoring dashboards, alerts and operational documentation.
• Develop scripts and tools to automate manual processes and reduce operational workload.
• Support software releases, deployments, configuration changes and maintenance activities.
• Perform system health checks and contribute to operational readiness reviews.
• Help improve runbooks, support procedures and knowledge-sharing materials.
• Work with engineering teams to improve application monitoring and production supportability.
• Participate in an on-call rota once fully trained.

Essential skills and experience

• Commercial or hands-on experience in a technical support, systems, operations, DevOps, infrastructure or SRE environment.
• Good understanding of Linux operating systems.
• Basic scripting ability in Python, Bash, PowerShell or a similar language.
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
• Understanding of servers, processes, logs, monitoring and system performance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to remain calm, structured and methodical during technical incidents.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a demanding technical environment.
• Degree, apprenticeship, bootcamp or equivalent practical experience in computer science, engineering or a related discipline.
