What they need

Join Accent Group one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest retail groups. With 850+ stores, 34 iconic brands and 30+ online platforms, we’re home to some of the world’s most recognised names, including HOKA, Skechers, Dr. Martens, Platypus, Hype DC, Stylerunner, Nude Lucy, Lacoste, Sports Direct and Vans. We’re driven by innovation, passionate about our people and committed to creating exceptional experiences for our customers and teams. Here individuality is celebrated, performance is rewarded and you’ll be empowered to make your mark!

We’re looking for a curious and hands-on Junior Data Engineer to join the Accent Group Data team.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their data career who wants to build strong technical foundations while working with real-world data across a large, fast-paced retail business.

You’ll work alongside experienced Data Engineers and Analysts, helping build and maintain the pipelines that power reporting, analytics and key business initiatives across the Group. Along the way, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to our modern data environment, including Azure, Databricks and SQL, with plenty of support to develop your skills and grow your career.

What you’ll do

  • Write and optimise SQL to validate, shape and troubleshoot data across pipelines and data marts.
  • Partner with Data Engineers and Analysts to design and build new pipelines in Azure Data Factory.
  • Support Databricks initiatives across data processing, transformations and pipeline development.
  • Help maintain reliable data flows that support reporting, analytics and business initiatives.
  • Contribute to data quality, validation and documentation across the pipelines you build and support.
  • Troubleshoot data issues and work with the team to identify practical solutions.
  • Learn from senior members of the Data team and continue building your capability across the Azure data platform.
  • Develop your understanding of data engineering best practices, tools and emerging technologies.

What you’ll bring

You don’t need to know everything yet. We’re looking for someone with strong technical foundations, a genuine interest in data engineering and the curiosity to keep learning.

Essential:

  • Hands-on experience writing SQL, including joins, aggregations, CTEs and window functions.
  • An understanding of core data engineering concepts including ETL/ELT, data modelling, incremental loading and data validation.
  • A programming foundation beyond SQL, ideally Python.
  • Around 1–2 years’ experience in data engineering, BI or database development, or equivalent practical experience gained through study, internships or projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
  • A willingness to ask questions, take feedback and build greater autonomy over time.

Advantageous:

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server or Azure SQL Database, including T-SQL and stored procedures, or other relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
  • Exposure to Azure Data Factory.
  • Exposure to Databricks or Spark, or a strong willingness to develop these skills.
  • Experience or an interest in retail data, including trading, inventory and customer performance.

Why Join Us?

You’ll have the opportunity to work with some of the world’s most recognised retail brands while building your career within a collaborative and forward-thinking Data team.

You’ll gain exposure to a modern technology stack, learn from experienced team members and contribute to projects that have a genuine impact across the business.

Most importantly, you’ll be joining an environment where you can ask questions, build your technical capability and take on greater ownership as you grow.

At Accent Group Limited we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity and inclusion.
