Junior Driver & General Maintenance Assistant

We are looking for a reliable, practical, and hands-on Driver & General Maintenance Assistant to join our team.

This is an all-rounder position suited to someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving practical problems and assisting wherever needed. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving duties as well as general maintenance, repairs and basic installation work across various sites.

Key Responsibilities: Driving & General Assistance

• Carry out company-related driving, deliveries and collections as required.
• Transport equipment, materials and supplies between locations.
• Assist with loading and unloading when necessary.
• Keep the company vehicle clean, presentable, and in good working condition.
• Report any vehicle maintenance or repair requirements promptly.
• Assist the team with general operational and on-site tasks when required.

General Maintenance & Handyman Work

Perform basic maintenance, repairs, and installations, including:

• Painting: Basic preparation, touch-ups and painting of walls, doors and other surfaces.
• Electrical: Basic electrical tasks such as changing light fittings, globes, plugs and minor fixtures. Refer more complex electrical work to a qualified electrician.
• Plumbing: Basic plumbing repairs, identifying leaks and replacing simple fittings.
• Installations: Installing shelves, brackets, curtain rails, signage, fixtures and other basic items.
• Tiling: Minor tile repairs, replacements and basic tiling work.
• Woodwork: Basic repairs, adjustments and simple carpentry or woodworking tasks.
• General Repairs: Identifying and resolving minor maintenance issues across different sites.

Practical Problem-Solving

A key part of this position is being able to assess situations practically and determine the best way to resolve everyday maintenance and operational problems.

The successful candidate should be comfortable:

• Identifying the cause of basic maintenance problems.
• Finding practical and cost-effective solutions.
• Working independently on straightforward tasks.
• Knowing when a job requires a qualified specialist or contractor.
• Using common hand and power tools safely.
• Working across different environments and sites.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid South African driver’s licence – compulsory.
• Confident and responsible driver.
• General understanding of painting, basic electrical work, plumbing, installations, tiling and woodwork.
• Comfortable using basic hand and power tools.
• Good practical and problem-solving ability.
• Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
• Able to work independently and follow instructions.
• Physically capable of carrying out general maintenance duties.
• Willing to travel between sites as required.
• Good communication skills.
• Able to maintain a professional manner when working at client or company premises.

Advantageous

• Previous experience as a handyman, maintenance assistant, facilities assistant or similar.
• Previous professional driving or delivery experience.
• Experience working on commercial or residential properties.
• Basic knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Own reliable transport to and from work.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is a genuine all-rounder — someone who sees a practical problem and is willing to figure out how to solve it.

You should take pride in your work, look after company property and equipment, and be comfortable moving between driving, maintenance, installations and general operational support depending on what is required on the day.

I would lean toward Driver & General Maintenance Assistant rather than “Handyman” as the official title. It gives you room to include the driving, maintenance, installations and on-site problem-solving without making the position sound too informal.

Pay: From R8 000,00 per month
