What they need

Kickstart your career with a 4-day work week and hands-on mentorship! Join Controlling Power, an innovative and well-established Australian manufacturer specialising in premium switchboards and distribution boards for commercial and industrial applications.

Based in our modern facility at Somersby on the NSW Central Coast, we have spent the past 10+ years building a reputation for quality, technical expertise, and innovation. Because we are growing fast and love to promote from within, we are looking for an eager, detail-oriented Junior Electrical Design Drafter to join our team.

If you want to move past pure theory, learn from industry leaders who help shape Australian electrical standards, and see your designs built right in front of you on the workshop floor, this is the perfect launchpad for your career.

Why Join Us?

  • 4-Day Work Week: Enjoy a 76-hour fortnight. That's four days and a long weekend most weeks (potential for some Friday overtime)!
  • Mentorship & Training: Receive dedicated training in both AutoCAD and SolidWorks from senior designers invested in your growth.
  • Easy Commute: Stress-free travel against the traffic to our modern Somersby facility.
  • Stability & Security: Join an established business with a rock-solid pipeline of work and strong industry relationships.
  • Real Career Growth: We believe in "growing our own." Start in drafting and open doors to future roles across design, sales, and operations.
  • See Your Work Come to Life: Escape the isolation of a typical desk job. You will collaborate daily with our workshop team and see your digital drawings turned into real, physical products.

What You’ll Do

With plenty of guidance and training from our senior team, you will learn to bridge the gap between client concepts and the manufacturing floor. You will:

  • Learn & Draft: Develop your skills by creating 2D schematics and layouts in AutoCAD, with opportunities to be trained up in 3D modelling using SolidWorks.
  • Support Production: Learn how to generate precise Bills of Materials (BOMs) and work alongside procurement and the workshop team to see how parts are ordered and assembled.
  • Build Quality Habits: Learn our rigorous self-check processes to keep drawing errors under a 2% threshold, ensuring designs comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000 & AS/NZS 61439).
  • Maintain the Library: Assist the team in updating and standardising our AutoCAD drafting templates, symbols, and libraries—a great way to master electrical components quickly!

What You’ll Bring

We don't expect you to know everything on day one, but we are looking for someone with a strong foundational drive, attention to detail, and a hunger to learn.

  • The Foundations: 0–2 years of experience in electrical drafting, or a strong portfolio of drafting coursework from your studies.
  • Software Basics: Some working knowledge or classroom exposure to AutoCAD. Any exposure to 3D software or SolidWorks is a fantastic bonus, but we are happy to train the right candidate!
  • Curiosity for Components: A basic understanding of or keen interest in electrical components (like circuit breakers, metering and control equipment) and Australian standards.
  • The Right Attitude: Enthusiastic, reliable team player. High attention to detail, strong spatial reasoning, excellent communication skills, keen ability to collaborate with people across different teams.
  • Qualifications: A recent TAFE Certification in Engineering Drafting, an Advanced Diploma, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Essentials: A current NSW Driver’s License is required (as no regular public transport close by).

How to Apply

If you are ready to kickstart your career, learn from the best, and enjoy a 3-day weekend most weeks, we want to hear from you! Please click "Apply Now" and submit your resume along with a brief cover letter telling us why you’re excited to join the manufacturing industry.
