Junior Engineer

Kromco (Pty) Ltd., based in Grabouw , is a major player in the pome fruit industry and is looking for a hands-on Junior Engineer. The role involves supporting the Factory Engineer with engineering projects, facility upgrades, data analysis, reporting automation, and continuous improvement across the facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to): *Assist the Factory Engineer with ad hoc tasks, capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, and facility upgrades *Take full ownership of smaller, individual engineering and continuous improvement projects from concept to execution *Maintain and update facility layouts, CAD drawings, and technical documentation *Work closely with technicians and operations teams to solve day-to-day mechanical and operational challenges *Assist with asset management and improvement *Support the Operations Manager by designing, building, and maintaining automated reporting tools and dashboards *Introduce automated data collection systems *Analyse operational data to identify bottlenecks, optimise packing efficiency, and improve yield *All other tasks related to the role.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

• Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering;

• At least 3 years’ experience in a packhouse, food processing, or manufacturing environment;

• Strong proficiency in data analysis and visualisation tools (e.g., Advanced Excel, Power BI, Python, or SQL);

• Basic proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) for facility layout and design;

• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC – Factories) would be an advantage, or willingness to obtain a GCC;

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and mathematical skills;

• Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.
