Junior Estimating Assistant - Structural Steel

Summary

We are looking for a bright, motivated and highly organized individual to join our Structural Steel Estimating Department in an entry-level role.

This position is ideal for a recent graduate with an educational background or exposure to structural steel, civil/structural engineering, construction engineering technology, or a related program. Previous structural steel industry or estimating experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and send RFQs to suppliers and subcontractors.
• Follow up on quotations and maintain RFQ and bid trackers.
• Organize drawings, specifications, addenda and tender documents.
• Review and level supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Maintain bid lists, tender deadlines and estimating files.
• Assist estimators with take-offs, pricing and bid preparation as training progresses.
• Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and information.
• Provide general support to the estimating department.

What We Are Looking For

• Recent graduate from a Civil/Structural Engineering Technician or Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or related program.
• Some academic or practical exposure to structural steel and construction drawings is preferred.
• Bluebeam and MS Office experience.
• Strong analytical ability and ability to learn quickly.
• Hard-working, dependable and willing to take initiative.
• Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong follow-up and time-management skills.
• Comfortable working with Excel, Outlook and electronic documents.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Experience

Entry level. Previous structural steel estimating experience is not required. We are looking for someone with the aptitude, work ethic and willingness to learn and will provide training in our estimating processes.

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
