What they need

A-1 Electrical Contractors, Inc. is expanding its pre-construction team and is seeking a Junior Estimator to manage estimates and coordinate incoming and outgoing bids. Under the supervision of the Chief Estimator, the Junior Estimator gathers quotes, prints, and specifications to prepare labor and material budgets for potential projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Estimating and Take-Offs: Estimate labor and material costs for incoming small and large commercial projects, and complete a full electrical material “on screen” take-off of the bid documents in cloud-based software.

  • Bid Coordination: Gain a complete understanding of job specific specifications and scope requirements, and maintain bid due dates, walk-through and meeting schedules, addendum documents, and changes to original plans.

  • Client and Vendor Communication: Communicate with clients, material vendors, and subcontractors on a regular basis to maintain specific deadlines, and organize vendor and subcontractor quotations in file explorer.

  • Internal Coordination: Thoroughly communicate all project details with the Chief Estimator in a timely manner prior to deadlines, and develop relationships with project management staff to effectively transition awarded projects from pre-construction to construction.

  • Meetings and Site Knowledge: Attend meetings, when necessary, with general contractors, architects, and engineers to gain knowledge of existing conditions or specific job requirements prior to the bid.

  • Systems and Pricing Data: Update labor and material pricing in cloud-based software as needed, utilize accounting software for quotation updating, and update the Microsoft Teams bidding platform.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership, which may include participating in business development and marketing functions.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certificate of Completion for an accredited electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent, or 3+ years of construction-related experience in place of the apprenticeship program. High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Knowledge of electrical methods and best practices, with the ability to read and interpret construction documents.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, and strong skills in the areas of math and estimating.

  • Ability to manage deadlines and to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Must be organized and detail oriented.

  • Pleasant phone demeanor and the ability to demonstrate good customer service and phone skills, and to work with other employees, management, and clients while abiding by company policies and procedures.

  • Must comply with a criminal background check and drug test.

  • Preferred: Associate level degree in Electrical Technology or equivalent, and 4+ years of experience in the electrical construction industry. 4+ years of construction-related experience may be substituted for a 4-year degree.

POSITION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position works in an office setting 80% of the time and at potential jobsites 20% of the time, during project specified/required hours. Regular attendance is an essential function.

  • Regularly required to sit and view a computer monitor for extended periods, and to stand, walk, use hands and arms, talk, and hear.

  • Some duties may be performed outside in the elements on a job site, which may include exposure to water, dust, dirt, grease, paint fumes, chemicals, and equipment noise and vibration.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly, with health insurance and ancillary benefit options, paid holidays, PTO, and 401k with company matching.
