Junior Estimator/Estimating Assistant

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Estimator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will assist in preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects, ensuring competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards. Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical documents to interpret project scope and requirements accurately
• Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services using estimating software such as HeavyBid or similar tools
• Analyze material costs and quantities from blueprints and construction drawings to ensure precise material requirement estimation
• Support the review and management of project budgets, including cost control and cost management strategies throughout the bidding process
• Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients through negotiation to secure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms
• Utilize construction management software like Bluebeam and Microsoft Office suite to organize data, create spreadsheets, and generate reports
• Participate in blueprint reading sessions and construction drawing reviews to ensure comprehensive understanding of project plans
• Assist in preparing bids by compiling all necessary documentation, pricing details, and supporting materials for submission
• Contribute to maintaining accurate records of estimates, contracts, change orders, and project documentation
• Support senior estimators in managing multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines
• Attend job walks

Skills

• Proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid or equivalent platforms, a plus
• Strong knowledge of Bluebeam for digital markup and document management
• Excellent blueprint reading skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings accurately
• Experience with public works construction industry estimating practices including material cost estimating and pricing strategies
• Familiarity with construction management software like Bluebeam or Xactimate for project documentation
• Solid understanding of construction drawing review processes and interpreting technical specifications
• Effective negotiation skills with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to achieve optimal pricing outcomes
• Competence in managing spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel or similar tools for data analysis and cost tracking
• Knowledge of contracts, change orders, and cost control methods within commercial construction projects
• Construction site experience is a plus for understanding on-the-ground realities that impact estimates
• Strong communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration

Pay: $58,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
