About Motion Robotics

At Motion Robotics, we design and build industrial-grade autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that improve how factories and logistics operations move materials.   Motion Robotics is part of the PowerHandling Group, a US-based company with more than 25 years of designing and building material-handling technologies, with Motion Robotics being the division focused on autonomous machines.

We are an international team, working in Portugal on a range of AMRs and are now scaling up operations, moving from ideas to prototypes and prototypes to volume production of machines. Mechanical, electrical and software engineering are based in Portugal, with future production and sales through the US parent, PowerHandling Inc.

We’re a multi-cultural team, innovative and driven, international team that values practical problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on engineering.

About the Role

We're looking for a junior IT Systems & Robotics Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Portugal.

This is an entry-level to early-career position, ideally suited to candidates with 0-5 years of professional experience who enjoy solving practical technical problems and working across a variety of technologies.

As a small robotics and material handling company, this role combines two areas:

  • Supporting the day-to-day IT needs of the business.
  • Assisting with the development, testing, deployment, and support of our autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

On any given day, you might help a colleague resolve an Outlook or Teams issue, configure a laptop, troubleshoot a networking issue with an AMR, write a Python script that runs on an AMR, perform test routines, or assist with a customer installation.

What You’ll Do

Internal IT Support

  • Provide first-line IT support to employees.
  • Configure and maintain Windows laptops and workstations.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Manage PC, laptop, and equipment inventory.
  • Assist with user onboarding, software installation, and device setup.
  • Help maintain office networks, Wi-Fi infrastructure, and VPN connectivity.
  • Escalate issues when needed to our 3rd party IT support vendor, and work with them to resolve issues as needed

Robotics & Engineering Support

  • Assist with the testing, deployment, and troubleshooting of autonomous mobile robots.
  • Configure and validate robot hardware, software, and communications systems.
  • Create scripts and utilities using Python for robot features and behaviors
  • Support network configuration and diagnostics on robotic systems.
  • Participate in robot installations and commissioning activities at customer sites.
  • Assist the engineering team with debugging, validation, and documentation.

What We’re Looking For

  • 0-5 years of professional or academic experience in IT, software, robotics, automation, electrical engineering or a related technical field.
  • A maker mindset: someone who enjoys building things, solving practical problems, and learning through experimentation.
  • Proficiency in the English language
  • Good understanding of  Windows environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, Wi-Fi).
  • Basic programming experience in Python
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Willingness to learn and work across multiple technical disciplines.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Linux.
  • Exposure to robotics, automation, embedded systems, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience with Git.
  • Experience troubleshooting wired and wireless networks.
  • Experience with customer-facing technical support.
  • Evidence of personal initiative through projects, competitions, DIY builds, homelabs, open-source contributions, or other hands-on activities that demonstrate the ability to take an idea from concept to completion.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Help our team achieve their goals by ensuring a smooth IT operation
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of robotics systems.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers across domains.
  • Competitive salary, flexible schedule, and supportive work environment.
