System Department | Modi’in (central Israel) | Full-time, hybrid
ABOUT HEQA
HEQA Security is building the quantum networking fabric for next-generation secure networks and the quantum internet. We already commercialize the first deployed workload of that platform: quantum-secure infrastructure for the most sensitive links between critical sites, deployed with tier-1 telecom operators, cloud providers, and government customers.
What makes HEQA unique is the combination of a real business today, a production-grade stack built for real-world networks, from quantum physics and photonics to network software, and a credible path to owning a foundational layer of future quantum infrastructure. For physicists and engineers, that means frontier quantum technology that ships.
WHY HEQA
- Your work ships. What you build in the lab ends up running in operator and cloud networks, not in a drawer.
- Frontier physics with a product attached. Work across a deployed QKD product line and a next-generation entanglement roadmap at the same time.
- Small, senior, high-impact team. Direct access to the senior people making technical decisions; your ideas move fast from whiteboard to system.
- A company in a growth phase. Commercial traction is accelerating, and the team is scaling, so there is real room to grow.
- Connected to the research community. We collaborate with leading academic groups and take part in international standardization.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the System Department Manager, you will perform the hands-on measurements and tests that drive the development and production of our optical QKD systems, from characterizing individual components to validating full systems in the lab and in the field. This is a great role for a physicist/engineer who loves the lab and wants to work alongside senior physicists and engineers on quantum technology already deployed with customers.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Perform optical and electro-optical measurements, including optical power, loss, spectrum, polarization, timing and jitter, and low-light and single-photon detection.
- Characterize lasers, modulators, single-photon detectors, and fiber components, as well as full QKD system performance (e.g., QBER, key rate, stability).
- Build and maintain optical and fiber setups, and keep the lab organized, calibrated, and safe.
- Run lab and field tests, including long-term stability and environmental tests, and support customer trials (occasional travel).
- Analyze measurement data, automate recurring measurements, write test reports, and document lab procedures.
- Support integration and NPI: work with physicists and HW/SW engineers to bring QKD systems to production, including test and acceptance procedures for manufacturing.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Academic: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Physics, Electro-Optics Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on: Strong practical lab experience (research project, advanced lab courses, or industry); 1-3 years of industry experience.
- Lab equipment: Experience with electrical and optical lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, optical power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and lasers.
- Scripting: Basic Python (or similar) for data analysis.
- Documentation: Careful, reproducible work and clear technical reports in English.
NICE TO HAVE
- Fiber optics: Fiber-optic components, connector inspection and cleaning, and splicing.
- Low-light detection: Single-photon detectors and time-tagging electronics.
- Quantum: Basic familiarity with QKD or quantum optics concepts.
- Automation: Python or C# for lab automation.
- Testing: Environmental test equipment (e.g., climate chambers) or production test environments.
WHO YOU ARE
- Hands-on and meticulous: You enjoy lab work, pay attention to detail, and produce reliable, well-documented results.
- Curious and eager to learn: You want to grow into quantum technologies alongside experienced physicists.
- Team player: You work well with physicists and engineers toward shared goals.
