What they need
Position Summary
Armand Corporation is seeking a Project Architect to support a major public-sector capital improvement program in New York City. The position will work closely with a senior project architect and the broader project team, providing architectural, design coordination, and construction-phase support throughout the planning, design, and implementation of facility improvement projects.
The Project Architect will assist with the review and coordination of architectural and technical documents, participate in project and design meetings, track design and construction issues, and support resolution of field conditions, RFIs, submittals, and design modifications. The role offers an opportunity for an architect with developing project experience to work within a complex, multidisciplinary program environment while receiving direction and mentorship from experienced project leadership.
The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in architectural design and construction documentation, some exposure to construction administration, and the ability to coordinate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and client representatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support architectural and technical activities during planning, design, construction, and project implementation.
- Assist in reviewing architectural drawings, specifications, design submissions, and construction documents for completeness, coordination, and consistency with project requirements.
- Work under the direction of senior architectural/project personnel to identify and help resolve design, coordination, and constructability issues.
- Coordinate architectural information with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other technical disciplines.
- Participate in design reviews, project coordination meetings, progress meetings, and site visits.
- Assist with construction-phase activities, including review and tracking of RFIs, submittals, design modifications, and field conditions.
- Document design and construction issues and assist with tracking them through resolution.
- Support evaluation of existing facility conditions and proposed renovation or improvement work.
- Assist in monitoring project milestones and preparing status updates, meeting materials, and other project documentation.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, construction managers, and client representatives as required.
- Support senior project personnel with research, technical analysis, and development of recommendations.
- Perform other architectural and project-support activities as required by the assignment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
- Approximately 3–7 years of professional architectural experience, preferably involving design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Experience reviewing and coordinating architectural drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of building systems, construction methods, and applicable building codes.
- Exposure to RFIs, submittals, field conditions, punch lists, and other construction-administration processes.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with multiple architectural and engineering disciplines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple assignments and project issues.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
- Proficiency with commonly used architectural/document-management software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with public-sector, institutional, educational, municipal, or similar facility projects.
- Experience with renovation or improvement projects in existing or occupied facilities.
- Familiarity with New York City construction practices and applicable codes.
- Experience working within a construction management, owner's representative, or program-management environment.
- Architectural licensure or progress toward licensure is desirable but not required.
