What they need

The Company
Our client is a leading FMCG manufacturer with a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and operational excellence. Operating within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, they are committed to continuous improvement, investment in capital projects, and the development of future engineering talent.
An opportunity exists for a Junior Project Engineer to join the Engineering team and support the delivery of projects across manufacturing, processing, packaging, and site infrastructure.

The Role
As a Junior Project Engineer, you will support the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering projects within a busy FMCG manufacturing environment. Working closely with senior engineering and operations teams, you will gain exposure to capital projects, equipment installations, process improvements, commissioning activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. Typical FMCG project engineering responsibilities include equipment upgrades, production optimisation, commissioning support, contractor coordination, and technical documentation.
This role is ideally suited to an early-career engineer looking to build their project management and technical engineering capabilities while working within a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Duties

  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of capital and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support equipment installations, upgrades, commissioning, and validation activities.
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Prepare project documentation including scopes of work, technical specifications, risk assessments, and project reports.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and progress against key deliverables.
  • Assist with manufacturing process optimisation and production improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities relating to plant and equipment performance.
  • Support factory trials and new product implementation projects.
  • Ensure engineering projects comply with site safety, quality, environmental, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical documentation, and project records.
  • Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and external contractors to achieve successful project outcomes.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing environment is essential.
  • 1-3 years' engineering experience gained through industry experience, internships, graduate programs, or project-based engineering roles.
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment, processing systems, utilities, packaging equipment, or automation systems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and project delivery methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, process flow diagrams, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; exposure to AutoCAD, SAP, MS Project, or similar systems will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to develop your engineering career with a leading FMCG manufacturer.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of capital projects and manufacturing technologies.
  • Mentorship from experienced engineering and operational leaders.
  • Hands-on project experience across manufacturing and site infrastructure.
  • Career development and progression opportunities.
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment.
