About Central Technology
CT is a forward-thinking IT support, Telecoms and Cloud Services provider embarking on a journey to transition from a regional, single office business to a national, multi-location organisation.
Our mission is to be the UK’s leading business technology partner to the SME market AND to be the UK’s premier provider of cloud data solutions.
Background
We’re seeking a motivated Junior Project Engineer to join our growing MSP team. Working under the direction and supervision of our Project Engineers, you’ll be their “remote hands” on customer sites, carrying out the installations, migrations and infrastructure works they have planned, and helping drive our transformation into a national technology partner.
To succeed, you’ll be reliable, well organised and a clear communicator, with a solid grounding in IT and a genuine willingness to learn. Experience in an IT support or MSP environment is essential, along with a commitment to delivering work to a high standard and aligning with our company values.
When a Project Engineer builds a project plan, they will identify the tasks that can be delivered on site by a Junior Project Engineer. You’ll travel to customer premises across the UK to complete these works, following the agreed plan and working closely with the Project Engineer, who will guide and support you remotely. Because many projects affect customers’ core infrastructure, much of this work takes place outside normal business hours, so evening, weekend and overtime work is a regular part of the role.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to build hands-on project experience, develop their technical skills and progress towards a Project Engineer role within a growing managed services provider.
Key Responsibilities
· Carry out on-site project works, including installations, hardware deployments, configuration, migrations and cutovers, as directed by the supervising Project Engineer.
· Follow project plans, runbooks and change procedures accurately, escalating issues or deviations to the Project Engineer promptly.
· Travel to customer sites across the UK to act as the Project Engineer’s “remote hands”.
· Work out of hours, including evenings, weekends and overtime, to deliver infrastructure-impacting changes with minimal disruption to customers.
· Complete pre-visit checks, site surveys and post-works testing, providing clear updates, photographs and documentation to the project team.
· Maintain a professional, customer-focused presence on site, representing CT at all times.
· Keep project records, timesheets and ticketing systems accurate and up to date.
· Develop your technical skills through self-learning, mentoring from Project Engineers and working towards relevant certifications.
Essential Experience
· Experience in an IT support, service desk or field engineering role, ideally within an MSP.
· Working knowledge of Windows Server, Microsoft 365, desktop hardware and networking fundamentals.
· Ability to follow technical instructions and work methodically under remote supervision.
· Good customer service and communication skills, both on site and over the phone.
· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the UK, including overnight stays where required.
· Flexibility to work out of hours, including evenings and weekends, as projects require.
Desirable Experience
· Experience working in a rapidly expanding SME.
· Familiarity with the MSP service market.
· Exposure to Azure, virtualisation or cloud migration projects.
· Entry-level certifications such as Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, CompTIA A+/Network+ or similar.
What’s in it for you?
· Structured mentoring from experienced Project Engineers, with a clear development path towards a Project Engineer role.
· Support for Microsoft/Azure certifications and ongoing professional development.
· Overtime and out-of-hours working recognised in line with CT’s overtime policy, with travel expenses covered.
· Competitive salary, pension scheme, and wellbeing initiatives.
· Collaborative, innovative, and supportive team culture.
· Commitment to diversity and inclusion – we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
Location & Reporting
This is a full-time role reporting to the Implementation Manager, with day-to-day direction from the Project Engineers. The role is predominantly site-based, with frequent travel to customer premises across the UK, supported by office-based work (Chesterfield/Leicester). Regular out-of-hours, weekend and overtime working is required, and occasional overnight stays may be needed.
