What they need
BDO Digital Wellington
BDO Wellington is part of the global BDO network, one of the world’s leading accountancy and business advisory organisations, with a presence in more than 160 countries. Within our Wellington office, BDO Digital is a specialist cloud solutions team delivering integrations, data platforms, web applications and automation tools for clients across New Zealand and beyond. With a diverse range of projects and industries, you'll have the opportunity to tackle different challenges, work across multiple technologies, and continually grow your skills.
The Role
We’re looking for a Junior Software Developer to join the team. You’ll split your time between building features on our internal products and client-facing work across integrations, data solutions and web applications.
You’ll work closely alongside our team. You’re not just executing instructions - we want someone who asks questions, flags issues early and is growing toward the point where they can own a piece of work independently.
The Stack
C# and ASP.NET Core (.NET 8) for backend and API work. React and TypeScript on the frontend. PostgreSQL for data. Azure is home base, with Entra ID for auth and GitHub Actions for CI/CD. You don’t need to know all of it on day one, but you should be keen to learn.
You:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline — or equivalent practical experience (e.g. a bootcamp graduate with a strong portfolio)
- Some exposure to C# / .NET, or a strong foundation in another typed language (Java, TypeScript) and a genuine willingness to learn
- Familiarity with front-end development, ideally React or TypeScript
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL
- Comfort with Git and version control workflows
- General awareness of cloud platforms (Azure preferred, but any cloud experience is a plus)
- Curious about the business problems, not just the code
- Strong communicator who can work with technical and non-technical people
- Asks questions, challenges assumptions, and seeks clarity
- Interest in AI and automation is a bonus
What you will see in return
Upon joining BDO Wellington, you'll become part of a supportive and collaborative team where people genuinely enjoy working together. In return, you'll have access to a range of benefits, including flexible working, paid overtime, health insurance, wellness dollars, celebration leave, a Community Day, and a competitive remuneration package.
Apply Now
We're proud of our collaborative culture, supportive team environment, and commitment to helping our people thrive both professionally and personally. Balance matters here. If you're looking for a place where you can learn fast, contribute early, and make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
