Junior Software Developer

MYtech Consulting Services is a growing IT service provider, providing services to public and private sector clients. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Junior Software Developer until 12/02/2027 within NTG for a fixed-term contract. The Junior Software Developer will support the delivery of the National Firearms Register digital transformation program by contributing to application development activities and providing systems administration and operational ICT support. The role will work under the supervision of senior technical staff to assist in modernising legacy systems, supporting secure and stable environments, and ensuring reliable operation of digital platforms throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist with development, maintenance, and support of applications for the National Firearms Register.
• Support administration of development, test, and production environments.
• Assist with system configuration, patching, monitoring, and routine maintenance.
• Support application deployments, releases, and environment updates.
• Assist with user access provisioning and role-based permissions.
• Support incident response, troubleshooting, and operational ICT support.
• Assist with testing activities and defect resolution.
• Maintain technical documentation and comply with security and government ICT standards.

Essential Skills And Experience

• Qualification (or near completion) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Development, or a related discipline.
• Basic experience or demonstrated capability in software development (e.g. scripting, application support, or coding fundamentals).
• Basic experience supporting ICT systems or environments (development, test, or production).
• Familiarity with operating systems (Windows and/or Linux) and general systems administration tasks.
• Understanding of software development lifecycles and ICT operational processes.
• Ability to follow established procedures, standards, and security requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues under supervision.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, including ability to maintain technical documentation.

Desirable Skills And Experience

• Experience working with PowerBuilder.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, or equivalent).
• Experience with version control tools (e.g. Git) and deployment processes.
• Familiarity with databases and basic data handling or queries.
• Exposure to system monitoring, logging, or incident management tools.
• Awareness of information security, privacy, or government ICT standards.
• Experience working in a government, justice, law enforcement, or highly regulated environment.
• Relevant certifications or training (e.g. Microsoft, Linux, cloud, or security fundamentals).
