What they need
Relay AI is building software that lets companies create and run AI workers for operational tasks across sales, support, finance, research and internal operations.
We’re looking for an early-career Software Engineer to join a small product team and help build the systems behind those AI workers.
This is not a role where you’ll spend your first six months fixing tiny tickets. You’ll work directly on the product, ship features used by customers, and get exposure to both frontend and backend engineering.
What you’ll work on
You’ll help build features such as:
- Interfaces for creating, configuring and monitoring AI workers
- Backend APIs for running agent tasks and storing execution state
- Integrations with tools such as Gmail, Slack, HubSpot, Notion and Google Drive
- Human approval flows for actions that should not run autonomously
- Agent activity timelines, logs and debugging tools
- Permissions and access controls for customer data
- Background jobs for long-running AI tasks
- Internal tooling that helps us test and evaluate agent behaviour
You’ll also help investigate failures when an agent behaves unexpectedly and improve the systems that make those failures easier to understand.
Our stack
You do not need experience with everything below, but you should be comfortable learning quickly.
- TypeScript
- React / Next.js
- Node.js
- PostgreSQL
- REST APIs
- Cloud infrastructure
- LLM APIs and tool calling
What we’re looking for
You might be a good fit if you:
- Have built software outside of tutorials or university coursework
- Are comfortable writing TypeScript, JavaScript, Python or a similar language
- Understand basic web concepts such as APIs, databases and authentication
- Enjoy debugging and figuring out why systems behave the way they do
- Can take a loosely defined problem and turn it into something working
- Care about shipping useful software rather than only writing technically elegant code
- Want to work closely with founders and take ownership early
We care much more about evidence that you can build things than where you studied or whether you have worked at a well-known company.
Personal projects, open-source contributions, internships, hackathons and startup experience all count.
What you’ll get
You’ll join at an early stage and work directly with the founding team.
You’ll get:
- Real ownership over production features
- Exposure to AI agent infrastructure and applied LLM systems
- Frequent feedback and code reviews from experienced engineers
- A broad view across product, engineering and customer problems
- The opportunity to grow quickly as the engineering team expands
Interview process
We keep the process lightweight:
- Intro call
- Short practical coding exercise
- Technical discussion about your solution and projects
- Final conversation with the founders
We are not looking for LeetCode specialists. We are looking for people who can reason clearly, write solid software and learn quickly.
Pay: £45,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company pension
- UK visa sponsorship
- Work from home
Work Location: Remote
