What they need

Residential Housebuilding | 1–3 Years’ Experience

Location: Shropshire
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Benefits: Competitive benefits package

The Opportunity

We are working with an established residential housebuilder to recruit a Town Planner to join its planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a planner with around 1–3 years’ experience who is looking to develop their career within the residential development sector. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the delivery of new housing developments, helping to secure planning permissions and ensuring sites progress through the planning process.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have gained experience within a housebuilder, planning consultancy or local authority planning department and who are keen to build their knowledge of residential development.

The Role

Working alongside the wider planning and land teams, you will assist with a range of planning activities across immediate and longer-term residential development opportunities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the preparation, submission and management of planning applications for residential developments.
  • Assisting with site appraisals and reviewing planning histories, local planning policies and relevant development constraints.
  • Helping prepare planning statements, supporting documents and other materials required for planning submissions.
  • Liaising with external planning consultants, technical consultants, local planning authorities and internal colleagues.
  • Monitoring planning applications, conditions and discharge requirements to help keep developments progressing.
  • Supporting the preparation of outline, full and reserved matters applications.
  • Researching local plans, emerging planning policies and potential development opportunities.
  • Assisting with the identification and assessment of potential residential development sites.
  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues across the planning, land and technical teams.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and commercially aware planner who is keen to develop their career within the housebuilding industry.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Approximately 1–3 years’ experience in a planning-related role.
  • Experience working for a residential housebuilder, planning consultancy or local authority planning department.
  • A good understanding of the UK planning system and development management process.
  • Some experience of planning applications, planning policy, site assessments or development proposals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • A proactive approach, with a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibility.

A degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning or a related discipline would be advantageous. RTPI membership or progress towards chartership would also be welcomed, but relevant experience and the right attitude are equally important.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join an established residential business where you can gain valuable housebuilding experience, work on a variety of development projects and develop your technical and commercial planning knowledge.

The role would suit someone looking to take the next step in their planning career and gain greater exposure to the residential development process, with the opportunity to develop their skills within a supportive team.

Interested?

If you have 1–3 years’ planning experience and are interested in developing your career within residential housebuilding, we would welcome a confidential conversation.

Please get in touch to find out more about the opportunity.
