What they need

Our client is a Hong Kong SFC Type 9 licensed asset manager managing an equity long/short fund and separately managed accounts under the same strategy. We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Execution Trader with 1–3 years of relevant experience to support the firm’s trading activities across Hong Kong, China, North Asia and US-listed equity markets.

The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of a senior equity trader and collaborate closely with the Portfolio Manager, operations, compliance and risk teams to ensure accurate, efficient and controlled trade execution.

Candidates currently working in trade support or middle-office roles who are motivated to transition into an execution trading career are also strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Trade Execution

  • Execute equity orders using appropriate methods, including algorithmic strategies, limit orders, VWAP/TWAP, participation-based algorithms and direct broker execution, as instructed.
  • Continuously monitor market conditions, liquidity, spreads, volumes, volatility, corporate actions and relevant news that may affect execution quality.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with the senior trader and Portfolio Manager on order status, fills, liquidity constraints, pricing and execution risks.
  • Promptly escalate unusual market activity, execution exceptions, trading errors or potential policy breaches.

Order Management and Controls

  • Accurately enter, amend, route and monitor orders through the firm’s OMS/EMS and approved broker platforms.
  • Ensure all orders are executed in accordance with portfolio-manager instructions, internal trading procedures, best-execution obligations and applicable market rules.
  • Perform pre-trade checks covering account, security, market, size, position, restricted list, trading limits and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with post-trade reviews, including execution-quality analysis, trade allocation verification and investigation of exceptions.

Broker and Market Support

  • Assist in maintaining effective working relationships with approved execution brokers, sales traders and electronic-trading providers.
  • Obtain market colour, liquidity information, borrow availability and relevant execution feedback.
  • Support the monitoring of broker performance, commission usage, execution quality and research/service arrangements.

Operational and Compliance Coordination

  • Liaise with operations and middle-office teams to resolve trade breaks, settlement issues, failed trades, corporate-action impacts and booking discrepancies.
  • Work closely with Compliance to ensure adherence to SFC requirements, internal dealing rules, restricted lists, information barriers, market-conduct standards and record-keeping obligations.
  • Support periodic reporting and internal documentation related to trading activity, best execution, broker reviews and control monitoring.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 1–3 years of experience in equity execution trading covering cash equities, futures and equity swaps, gained within a hedge fund or a related buy-side/sell-side environment.
  • Candidates with solid trade support or middle-office experience who demonstrate strong interest and aptitude to progress into an execution trading role will also be considered.
  • Exposure to Hong Kong, China and North Asia markets, as well as US-listed China/HK ADRs, is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with OMS/EMS platforms, Bloomberg, broker execution platforms and Excel; experience with data or trading-analysis tools is beneficial.
  • Sound understanding of operational risk, the trade lifecycle and the importance of accurate records and timely escalation.
  • SFC Licensed Representative qualification is required.
  • Strong written and spoken English, Mandarin and Cantonese is strongly preferred for effective regional market and broker interaction.

Personal Attributes

  • Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy and the ability to remain calm under time-sensitive market conditions.
  • Disciplined, process-oriented and comfortable operating within clear risk and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with senior traders, portfolio managers, brokers and internal control functions.

Reporting Line and Development

  • Reports to: Senior Equity Trader.
  • Works closely with: Portfolio Managers, Investment Analysts, Operations, Fund Administration, Compliance and Risk teams.

This role offers a clear development path for high-potential individuals looking to build a career in equity execution trading within a growing long/short platform.
