Junior Underwriter

Job Summary

We are hiring a Junior Underwriter to sit between our closing operations and underwriting desk. In this role, you will own stip tracking, closing document collection, and business bank statement scrubbing, while supporting senior underwriting on preliminary deal review and credit preparation. This is a hands-on seat built for someone who wants to learn credit from the inside while running clean, disciplined process.

Responsibilities

• Closing & Operations
• Collect and track closing documents: contracts, personal guaranties, ACH authorizations, voided checks, entity documents, and owner identification

Underwriting Support

• Scrub business bank statements: deposits, NSFs, negative days, ending balances, holds, and average daily balance
• Build debt schedules and assess existing obligations and daily payment burden
• Prepare deposit quality reviews and bank summaries
• Draft credit call questions and support preliminary credit memos
• Flag risk items same-day to senior underwriting

Daily Expectations

• Update Ops and missing stip trackers by end of day
• Escalate critical stips, payoff mismatches, UCC/lien issues, or structure concerns immediately
• Provide short, specific status updates - no open-ended FYIs
• Update deal checklists and the missing stip tracker daily
• Follow up with brokers, merchants, payoff lenders, and attorneys on open items
• Track payoff letters, UCC searches, and lien release status
• Confirm ACH setup and bank verification pre-funding
• Maintain file organization and assemble clean funding packages

Qualifications

• 1–3 years in commercial lending, small business finance, credit analysis, or a related finance operations role
• Ability to read and interpret business bank statements and cash flow
• Working knowledge of UCC filings, payoffs, personal guaranties, and ACH setup
• Strong attention to detail - this role lives in checklists
• Proficient in Excel and Google Sheets, and comfortable in CRM platforms
• Clear, concise written communication
• Able to commute to our Irvine office Monday through Thursday

Nice to Have

• Exposure to credit memos or deal structuring
• Experience with underwriting automation or statement scrubbing tools
• Familiarity with broker-sourced deal flow

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
