What they need
Juvenile Detention Counselor – Pittsburgh, PA
Are you passionate about creating safer communities and empowering youth to grow in resilience? At Adelphoi, a nonprofit with over 50 years of transformative impact, we offer you the chance to make a real difference. With our recent expansion into Allegheny County, we are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team and help at-risk youth build a foundation for a brighter future.
Why Choose Adelphoi?
- We provide outcome-based treatment that integrates safety, security, and education with behavioral management.
- Comprehensive training equips our employees to succeed and advance their careers.
- We prioritize professional growth through self-guided career advancement opportunities.
What You’ll Do:
As a Detention Counselor, you will work alongside the juvenile justice system, including courts, police, and service providers, to maintain a safe, secure environment for youth. Your work will be essential to a 24/7/365 operation, helping adolescents in temporary care navigate challenges and find a path forward.
What You Bring:
- A minimum of 60 college credits required.
- Preferred experience in juvenile justice, congregate care, or youth-focused roles.
- Ability to pass a company-paid physical and obtain required clearances.
What We Offer:
- Competitive pay and a full benefits package, including medical, disability, retirement plans, and more.
- Generous paid time off and tuition reimbursement programs.
- Eligibility for student loan forgiveness and career advancement.
Training Details:
Our new hires participate in a two-week, daylight, paid training program. Once training and clearances are complete, you will transition to our Highland Detention facility in Allegheny County, with travel costs covered during this period. At this point you will be added into the rotating shifts.
Physical and Safety Requirements:
Because this role involves working with older and sometimes physically aggressive youth, candidates must be able to:
- Safely perform physical interventions and restraints with individuals who may weigh 200+ pounds, using approved techniques.
- Stand, walk, and respond quickly throughout the shift.
- Successfully complete and maintain certification in Adelphoi’s crisis intervention / restraint training and pass any required physical abilities assessment.
Make a Difference Today.
Begin a fulfilling career journey where you’ll help youth overcome challenges, grow in resilience, and achieve independence.
Adelphoi is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
