The Kaimahi role provides frontline, culturally grounded behaviour change support for men who use violence, with the aim of restoring whānau wellbeing and strengthening the safety of women, children, and families.
This role contributes directly to The Fono’s contracted Te Huringa ō Te Ao outcomes through mentoring, case management, and facilitated support that is trauma-informed, violence-informed, and accountability-focused. The position is grounded in Pacific and Māori values, upholds Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and aligns with The Fono’s integrated, equity-focused model of care.
We work collaboratively with local partners to create meaningful employment opportunities and drive positive social change. Our mission is to connect people with purposeful work whilst building stronger, more resilient communities throughout the region.
About the Role:

- Identify community needs and contribute to the design and delivery of programmes and initiatives that address these needs
- Support individuals through navigating services, resources and employment opportunities available to them
- Facilitate community engagement activities, workshops and events that promote participation and ownership
- Collect and analyse community feedback to inform programme development and service improvements
- Deliver services in line with Te Huringa ō Te Ao, MSD contracts, and national best practice
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with organisational policies and reporting requirements
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team
Please Note:
This role does not provide crisis response or specialist mental health, addictions, housing, or food support services.
About You:
- Proven experience working in community development, social services or a similar community-focused role
- Strong understanding of and commitment to cultural responsiveness, particularly in relation to te ao Māori and tikanga
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing community challenges
- Knowledge of local community networks, services and resources across Northland is highly desirable
- Relevant qualification in social work, community development, health or a related field is preferred
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout the Northland region
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
- A full New Zealand driver’s licence
Desirable:
Experience working with diverse client groups within the family violence space, including experience working with tāne or male clients.
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
