Role Description This is a remote, contract role for a Karenni Interpreter. The Karenni Interpreter will provide accurate, confidential, and culturally sensitive interpretation between Karenni and English in settings such as healthcare, legal, education, and government services. Day-to-day tasks include responding to scheduled and on-demand calls or video sessions, facilitating clear communication between parties, and adhering to established interpreting protocols and codes of ethics. The interpreter will be expected to manage assignments through GLOBO’s technology platform, maintain professional boundaries, and follow client-specific instructions and documentation requirements as needed. The role may also involve occasional participation in training sessions and performance reviews to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Strong language skills in Karenni and English, including excellent listening, speaking, and comprehension abilities.
• Demonstrated interpreting skills, such as consecutive interpretation, note-taking, and accurate message transfer without omissions or additions.
• Knowledge of professional ethics and standards for interpreters, including confidentiality, impartiality, and cultural sensitivity.
• Ability to work effectively in remote environments, with reliable internet access and proficiency using online platforms, telephony, and video tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including clarity of speech, patience, and the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience interpreting in healthcare, legal, social services, education, or government settings is highly beneficial.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in interpreting or linguistics is a plus.
• Ability to follow instructions, manage time efficiently, and remain calm and professional in urgent or emotionally sensitive situations.
