Kennel Assistant

Overview

Join our dedicated veterinary team as a Kennel Assistant and become a vital part of providing exceptional animal care and support in a busy veterinary environment. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our animal patients, assisting with daily husbandry tasks, and supporting veterinary staff with various clinical duties. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in animal handling, veterinary procedures, and client communication while contributing to the health and welfare of animals.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily care for animals housed in the kennel, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and monitoring their health status
• Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with clinical tasks such as animal restraint, medication administration, IV insertion, and catheterization
• Maintain detailed records of animal treatments, behaviors, and medical histories with accuracy and attention to detail
• Ensure all kennel areas are sanitized, organized, and comply with safety protocols using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Support front desk operations by communicating effectively with clients regarding pet care instructions and appointment scheduling
• Handle animals safely during intake, discharge, or transfer procedures while demonstrating knowledge of animal behavior and restraint techniques
• Assist in surgical preparation and post-operative recovery areas as needed to ensure optimal animal welfare

Qualifications

• Prior kennel experience or animal husbandry background is highly desirable
• Experience working in a veterinary clinic or with veterinary technicians is a plus
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology, medication administration, and basic surgical procedures is beneficial
• Strong skills in dog handling, animal restraint, and pet care are essential
• Ability to perform cleaning duties efficiently while adhering to safety standards and PPE use
• Familiarity with record keeping systems related to animal care and treatment documentation
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members effectively

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 17.0 – 25.5 per week
