Position: Kennel Attendant / Code Enforcement (Seasonal, PRN)

Pay Rate: $12.50–$15.00/hour, depending on qualifications (DOQ)

Position Summary
The City of Newton is seeking a dependable and responsible individual to fill a seasonal PRN position combining kennel attendant duties and code enforcement support. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with animals and is comfortable working independently in the field to help maintain community standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Feed, water, and care for animals housed at the city kennel/animal shelter
• Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and animal housing areas
• Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting concerns as needed
• Patrol assigned areas to identify code violations (e.g., property maintenance and nuisance ordinances)
• Document violations and issue notices as directed
• Respond to citizen complaints related to code enforcement.
• Maintain accurate records and logs of daily activities
• Operate a city vehicle to travel between locations as needed
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid driver's license required
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Comfortable working with animals of varying temperaments
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Schedule
This is a PRN (as-needed) seasonal position. Hours will vary based on operational needs, which may include weekends and holidays.
