We are seeking a dedicated Animal Care Attendant to ensure the health, safety, and comfort of shelter dogs and cats. This hands-on role involves daily cleaning, feeding, grooming, exercising, and administering medications, along with closely monitoring animals for signs of illness or distress. The position requires compassion for animals, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.

VISION: PRC SPCA envisions a day when every pet has a home and when every pet owner has the resources that they need to keep and care for their companion animals. The mission of Pearl River County SPCA is to bring about a time when there are No More Homeless Pets in our county. To help end the killing in our shelter we have programs that reduce our intake and programs that increase our live outcomes. The programs to reduce intake include public spay/neuter programs that reduce the number of unwanted litters, pet food pantry to help people in our community retain their pets, and resource of information to help people work through behavior issues. The programs for increasing live outcomes include building community programs and partnerships in our area of influence to provide offsite adoptions and working with other shelters across the nation to move our pets into areas where there are not enough pets to meet the demand. With the support of our community and working together, we can end homeless pets in our county. Description

Apply in person at 1700 Palestine Road, Picayune, Ms 39466. Tuesday - Saturday 10 AM - 4 PM. No phone calls.

Primary Purpose:

Provide for the overall welfare of all dogs and/or cats.

Essential Functions:

• Monitor health and well-being of dogs/cats.
• Immediately report any health or medical issues to Supervisor.
• Cleans kennels, feeds, grooms, exercises, and administers medication(s) to dogs/cats.
• Medicating and vaccinations of cats and dogs.
• Completes medical documentation as directed.
• Must possess good verbal and written communication skills;
• Must have a genuine interest in and concern for the overall well-being of animals and demonstrate empathy and compassion for Shelter animals;
• Ability to recognize signs/symptoms of disease and to handle dangerous and/or injured animals with a minimum of personal risk;
• Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma required.
• Previous kennel or veterinary experience preferred.
• Must possess valid Driver's License.
• Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels of the organization.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion.
• Problem solving skills with an analytical thought process.
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
• Comfortable and knowledgeable about cats, reading body language
• Familiar and comfortable around large breed dogs,

Nature of Work

• Reporting to the immediate Supervisor and/or Shelter Manager
• Ensures highest quality care and treatment of all animals
• Responsible for all cleaning and feeding of shelter animals
• Responsible for monitoring the health and behavior of all shelter animals
• Willingness to work weekends
• Responsible for providing assistance for special events and fundraising or adoption activities

Animal Care

• Follow medical protocols for any medical or behavioral concerns;
• Assisting with animal adoptions in safe and friendly manner
• Administer medications to animals on treatment schedule;
• Cleaning cages & kennels and ensuring animals are comfortable and healthy, daily
• Feeding all animals in your area
• Train dogs
• Make sure cage cards are posted at all times
• Walking large and small dogs
• Caring for cats and dogs
• Bathing dogs and cats
• Report any signs of illness immediately to vet staff
• Must be willing to carry out any other duties as requested by supervisor or Shelter Manager.

Working Conditions:

Work is based in a busy kennel environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold, and humidity. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include early morning, extended, or weekend hours, holidays.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 75 lbs. Requires standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions. Requires intermittent sitting, walking, running, climbing, squatting, stretching, bending and kneeling. Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Salary

$10 - $10 per hour
